I am gutted, no words can describe how I feel, John was a hero to me for eons and now after a long cancer battle he is gone. the poor man, My condolences to his family.
Rock icon John Wetton passed away this morning (January 31) at the age of 67. He had been battling cancer. The news was broken by John's ASIA bandmate Geoff Downes, who wrote on Twitter: "Dear All, I am sorry to be the bearer of the very sad news that my dearest friend, bandmate and co-writer, ...
Being a teenager in the early 80s, I always had the first ASIA album in my car's tape deck blaring. It was through ASIA that I discovered King Crimson, Uriah Heep and Roxy Music. John's vocal range was very unique to him and when I hear his voice in a song, I can immediately identify that voice.
Man, this one's going to bum me out for a long while as I was just listening to "ALPHA," the second ASIA album yesterday in the car.
RIP, John. Prayers for peace and condolences to your family, friends and fans worldwide...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
Heat of the Moment - The first single released from the band's self-title debut album...

Sole Survivor - Live from the "ASIA in Asia" tour, a concert largely sponsored and organized by MTV (back in the days when they actually played music) and featuring a competition to win a trip to the show that MIB41(Tom) can tell you I went a little haywire over...

actually Emerald. that show is with Greg Lake on vocals & bass, instead of John.
if anything, Before he passed away and the year he spent doing CHEMO, he posted constantly, to everyone, "GO GET CHECKED OUT"!!! If you have loved ones and care about them go do so!!!
Not a fan of prog rock... yet I'm a huge fan of when those bands go "pop".... Genesis' self-titled, Yes' 90125 are some of my favorite albums.
Asia's debut?
HUGE favorite.
I had no problem attending an Asia concert, despite attending alone... it was important to me... the original line-up's reunion tour a few years back... one of the greatest things I've ever been at.
RIP John Wetton
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
