Well the first of the dramatic ebay changes on ebay.com.au hit yesterday, and it's not pretty for some. Australia is apparently being used as a test market for the rest of the world, this is what awaits all who buy and sell on ebay...
New Rules
1. Each multiple feedback from other members is now counted as 1 towards your feedback score, retrospectively from yesterday. My feedback jumped 30 or so overnight, some people went up hundreds.
2. This is a killer, all neutral feedbacks have now been retrospectively scored as negatives, leaving thousands of users who had 100% feedback yesteday with 99%, 98% or lower today. Significancantly if you drop below 98% you are no longer eligible for full Paypal Seller protection, a nice little move by the 'bay, reducing their liability by millions overnight.
3. Sellers can no longer leave Negative or Neutral feedback for buyers. I kid you not. And as of today, when leaving feedback a little prompt comes up saying "Be honest when leaving feedback, sellers can't leave negatives or neutrals so you don't have to worry about unfair retaliatory feedback" or words to that effect, if that's not encouraging the buyer to be harsh in their feedback I don't know what is.
4.As of next month, the only payment methods accepted on ebay.com.au will be Paypal or Cash On Delivery. You read that right. No cash, no direct deposit, internet banking, money orders, cheques or anything, just the payment system owned by Ebay themselves.
The community boards are going nuts down here, check it out.
This is all apparently in an effort to make buying and selling safer on ebay.
Of course I can understand the reasons why they have made the changes, it's just incredibly frustrating to have all of these restrictions placed upon the 99% of ebay users who do the right thing, all to protect the 1% of buyers who can't see a red flag when it's waved in front of their face by the 1% of sellers who set out to cheat them.
