Man, this year is starting to suck just about as badly as 2016 did. RIP, John. Condolences to his family, friends and fans...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
I'm currently watching "Hellboy" in his memory and will follow it up with "The Day of the Doctor." I wish we'd've had a bit more time to spend with the War Doctor, Hurt was great in the role.

God damn this sucks... I have never seen an uninteresting John Hurt performance.
From Caligula in "I Claudius"
to "1984" to "Alien" to so many
He was one of the great actors-- he could play high or low, noble or crass. And you never once, ever caught him reaching for an effect. The perfect pitch to his performances just seemed to come naturally.
I love so many roles by him, but one in particular which stands out was as the villain in the now-forgotten "Rob Roy" with Liam Neeson from 1995. He and Tim Roth were quite the due in that, and both were wrongly overlooked for supporting actor oscars.

Warm up?! We may as well sit around this cigarette!
