Yes, 2016 has exacted a heavy toll.

Also, Richard Adams, the author of Watership Down, passed away a couple of days ago.

The author of Watership Down, Richard Adams, has died aged 96, his daughter says.

This isn't a one-off year. I've been warning about this since Roy Schneider died.

The Boomers had the biggest slate of film/TV stars. Once they entered retirement age, their stars were going to start passing on. We got three or four years of long list ahead.

Stars come about in ebb and flow, hang on for decades. But they pass in waves and then we get a death tally at years end. That's what makes it hard. If they passed like they arrived it wouldn't feel so depressing.

TCM always does a good job but they should have held off until New Year's Eve this time.

I would imagine that the 2017 Oscars will likely feature one of the single, longest "In Memorium" pieces in recent history. Let's hope that, as of today, they needn't add any more...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. They are always very touching, but I hadn't seen this year's yet. I'm guessing they will either revise it, or do separate ones for Fisher and Reynolds, which they also do.

            Edited to add:

I just watched that, and the Gene Wilder bit choked me up.

They did leave out Glenn Frey. He was an actor too, and was in Jerry Maguire, for instance.

It's the same thing year after year, just go back to any year, bunch of famous people die...unfortunately, it's part of nature.

Just take last year for instance (2015)...some big names there too...starting with Leonard Nimoy...

As 2015 is quickly coming to a close, we would like to take some time to remember the celebrities that sadly passed away this past year. There were some very…

              Go to any year...same thing.

The reason most of us here relate to these deaths more...because they are often celebrities from our childhood...like hedrap said...baby boomers are the one we relate to the most...because we are part of the same boat.

Anyway...not to sound gloom and doom...but that's the result of our limited lifespans.

Why can we live as long as Giant Sequoias?

The joke for years and years was "Abe Vigoda....Dead or Alive?" and as he went very early in the year, it seems like he may have been holding The Grim Reaper back. Once he went, the flood gates opened.

(Yes, of course...I realize that is not a real reason for so many celebrity deaths in 2016)

I think what is different this year, is the amount of celebrities that died very young. I mean, god bless Abe Vigoda, but the guy was in his nineties. or Nancy Reagan or James Garner, or even Debbie Reynolds, 84. those were good long lives. but then you look at Prince, and George Michael and Carrie Fisher and so many others, including Bowie and Glenn Frey, way to young to leave this world.

For many of those younger celebrities who keep dying...stay off drugs, simple as that...

Ex NFL player dies in freak accident...

Safety Keion Carpenter, who spent seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons, died on Thursday morning at a hospital in Miami. A cousin, Jamila Smith, told the Baltimore Sun, “They were running to the car when [Carpenter] slipped, fell, hit his head and slipped into a coma. Listed at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, Carpenter entered the league in 1999 with the Bills as an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech.

Removed James Garner from the list as I was just informed that he sailed Into the Mystic 2 years ago. (Thanks hobub)

TCM updates its list when it (sadly) has to do so. I haven't seen one with Debbie Reynolds, but I saw where they went back to add both Zsa Zsa and Carrie Fisher.
