I had a Car Accident on the highway today - I'm okay!

I drove from Halifax to Pictou County this morning for meetings and hit a snow storm. The streets were greasy and we spun into a ditch about 30 minutes away from our destination. It made more sense to drive ahead the final 30 minutes at that point than turn around hoe to drive 90 minutes back.

Fifteen minutes later, highway traffic was reduced to everyone doing 50 with their 4-ways on. We were down to one lane and everyone was following the tire tracks ahead of them. Then one ***** clown driving a commercial large truck decided to pass everyone. As he plowed thru at 80 klicks he forced everyone to the right. When I got to the right, I hit a greasy patch and fish-tailed. As a result my car made a very sharp fast left turn right into his oncoming bumper. The impact threw my into a hard fast right turn, pointing my car in the opposite direction and right back into the ditch.

I had a co-worker in my car but all parties walked away fine. A car can be replaced, so I call it a win. My car is totalled so I'll be going to my Uncle's funeral tomorrow in a rent a car. Immeditaley after the accident my right ankle was sore and my back pain has increased as the day progressed. I'm getting checked out tomorrow after the funeral.

It was a rough day and having just heard of my Uncle's passing last week, I had already been thinking about how fragile life is. I'm writing this to simply remind you all what we already know to be true......any one of us or our loved ones could be gone at any moment, so say "I love you", call your parents, put your phones down and be present...and to also tell you all that this community is a part of my life I am proud of and I think the world of you guys!

Glad you are OK. Scary story! It's so true what you say in your last paragraph... You have to live every day like its your last.
Tonight when I lay in bed I will say a quick prayer for you bro. Again, glad you are OK

I am glad you're OK. I detest drivers like the one you encountered.

Also glad to hear that the only casualty was the car. I've been in two wrecks in which the cars have been totaled (courtesy of the other driver) and, while I walked away physically unharmed, it does have a tendency to occupy a space in your mind for a while when you think of what could have happened and that, by the Grace of God (or whomever your higher power is), it didn't.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Good to read you're putting it in perspective, Jase. I can relate from about six months ago. I'm still in PT and have a few more months. My wife and kids were with me, but I swerved to take the brunt. It changes perspective on a number of fronts. As I've been told, it creates a "new normal", which requires a weekly or daily adjustment.

Sounds like a close call. I totally agree that we shouldn't take anything for granted. We had a tragic car accident in our community last week that claimed the life of a high school senior, and critically injured another. Best to live each day to the fullest and let your loved ones know you care. Glad to hear you and your friends are fine.

I shared this with Jason last night but the scariest drive of my life occurred on the exact same road in the late 1990s. Snow is incredible there, I don't know how you guys do it. I still shudder when I think of it.

                              Glad you're ok.
