    RIP Sharon Jones.

And this God awful year for deaths in music continues. So sad to hear about this. Such an AMAZING singer that helped bring back Soul/R&B. Sharon was battling cancer for the last 2 years or so. She made it late in life as a GREAT singer...but she did make it. Rest easy and know that you had an impact in this world. RIP Sharon.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them

RIP Sharon. She was a fantastic performer. We shared a bill once together in Colorado 10 years ago or so. Her band opened up the sets, and it was a tough act to follow. I recall her being very concerned about her band, as they hadn't had a chance to get a decent meal in before we started playing. She wasn't worried about ticket sales or any of the number crunching, she just wanted to make sure her band got some pizza. Great talent, great voice, great soul. She will be sorely missed.

Absolutely heartbreaking. The last I heard she had recovered well, so this was shocking.

Turns out she did recover from cancer, she died after having a stroke. Ugh --- life.
