What do you guys feel about e-books? If a book is photo heavy, I'll still buy the real thing, and I can't read comics on a tablet, I've tried. But if it's strictly prose, e-books are easier on my aging eyes, and books just take up so much room on my shelves. Plus, we are thinking of moving, and I dread to think how many big, heavy boxes of books I will have to pack. I just donated a bunch to the local library.Comment

Hulu's really losing out lately, the CW stuff is gone to the inferior problem plagued CW app and now the Criterion stuff? Then on the other hand there is no way I am paying another 10.99 a month for TCM. If I got all that I wanted to it would cost as much as cable tv.Last edited by thunderbolt; Nov 11, '16, 4:54 AM.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. I know most people don't have this problem, but there are still areas where high speed internet is not available,...and I live in one. My parents, sister, and myself all live quite a few miles from town and DSL is not available for most out here. Adding insult to injury is that the county complex, with it's towers, is close by thus other towers are restricted and our signal from the closest towers is iffy at best. The same holds true for satellite services. So, in this day and age, my parents and sister still have dial-up service! We have DSL, but because of the distance it runs, it's makes steaming very choppy. It especially sucks for my sister's family because all her kid's nightly homework is sent to their Chromebooks after they leave school for the day. Every afternoon, her kids have to drive somewhere for free WIFI to get their homework. They have lots of friends who give them passwords and let them park in their driveways, but their have been instances where, in the morning, teachers ask for something to be brought from home. They forget that not all their students have high-speed access.sigpicComment

If its a movie that I'll probably watch once - then I'll stream it.
If its something that I feel is going into the permanent collection and something I'll want to see again, yes I'll buy it on DVD / Blu-Ray. I have a lot of obscure and out of print stuff, that may be available to stream today, but may not tomorrow - due to rights changing.
Another thing is, I'll buy a hardcopy DVD and convert it to an MP4. I have a hard drive attached to my TV so I can scroll thru and watch it that way.Comment

I don't own many, but I like them. My eyesight is lousy and you can make the type as big as you want. Plus, you aren't stuck trying to find space for a physical book. I have a lot of books, most of which I have read exactly once. I know the idea is that someday, I might want to refer back to something I read or reread something, but that just doesn't happen for me and hasn't happened in many, many years.Comment

The internet isn't fast enough around here for streaming, and I'm not sure I'd like to rely on my ISP for movies/shows anyway. An outage and suddenly I've got nothing to do. i'd have to go outside or something. Terrible.
I have about 300 BR/DVDs that rarely (practically never) get played. These days I have a hard drive dedicated to movies and shows, which hangs off the back of my computer. I stream them via the Plex app to the Playstation in the lounge, the Roku in the bedroom, and the kid's computers.
I guess when we switch to 4K I may have to reassess this setup, but for now the picture quality is good enough.
We recently put 250+ novels into the recycling after local charity shops weren't interested. Criminal, I know, but they were just taking up shelf space here. My iPhone (6+) currently has about 60 novels on it, yet weighs exactly the same as when I bought it.Even My Henchmen Think I'm Crazy.Comment

Hallmark actually did that to the Filmation library when they owned it in the 90s. They scanned it at PAL standard definition resolution and then destroyed all the original masters. That's why we will never see Tarzan, Lone Ranger, Flash Gordon, He-Man, She-Ra, etc. in HD or Blu-Ray.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

I was shocked too when I went into my local FYE. It had remodeled and the CDs and DVDs were now only taking up about 25 percent of the store in the back.
I like DVDs because my internet connection isn't that great and I do not like how the quality drops down or it lags or freezes.Comment
