Halloween movies; Christmas movies... Then what?

My wife and I overdose on old horror movies this time of year. It's my favorite time to watch movies. Then for Christmas, she loves those schmaltsy Hallmark Christmas movies and so, I end up watching those too. I do enjoy the Rankin-Bass and other Christmas specials.

By the time the holidays are over, I'm ready to move on. For the past few years, I seem to go on a James Bond 007 movie binge right after Christmas. Anybody else get a craving for a certain genre after the holidays. What do you use to cleanse the palette?

I usually try and binge watch a favorite show, such as LOST. although this year I think we might do a marathon of the Walking Dead

I love Hallmark Christmas movies. I practically play them non stop through November and December. If you get the Decades channel. they have a "binge" every weekend of some classic show. It's pretty cool when you can find some you really like.

For a few years I'd watch a season of 24, and then Downton Abbey got me in the mood for British series. I still have some Daredevil & Luke Cage to get through, so maybe that...and the new 24!

Oh yeah during the Christmas break last year is when the wife and I binged Downton Abbey. Never thought I'd like it; ended up totally loving every minute.

Have you been watching the new show "This Is Us"? Each week is a Hallmark tear-jerker x 10.

I challenge you to watch the Waltons from A-Z. I never thought I'd like it but it gave me a history lesson of the period in which my grandparents were young adult to middle aged and it is excellently done but like more contemporary shows like the Big Bang Theory and the 70s show, it builds (straight from the deepest part of the Great Depression to the end of WW2 in this case). Favorite episodes: The Conflict p1 and p2, The Deed, The Pony Cart, and The Moonshiner.

              I double dog dare ya!

^Devoted Walton's fan here, the earlier seasons are particularly strong. IMO the last two seasons falter with cast losses and recasting. I try to imagine the show ending in season 7 with "Founder's Day" and a last guest appearance by Richard Thomas' John Boy. I love the show; when it hits it right it's very, very good.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I remember watching a bit of The Waltons as a kid, but I was probably not old enough to appreciate what was going on. For some reason, I have more vivid memories of the Waltons Christmas special. Where does that come in the timeline?

I remember John Boy getting the writing paper, the toys given away off the back of a truck and the Christmas play.

I'm not sure but I know Wikipedia has a list.

Here is an example of the strong stories of history and hard life of those times though

The Homecoming: A Christmas Story was the pilot for the Waltons TV show, so chronologically it's the first episode. I watch it every year around the holidays.

After the holidays I get nostalgic for 80's cartoons. Marathons of He-Man, Transformers, Thundarr, Defenders of the Earth, Thundercats, Super Powers...

I think it's because that's the time of year I got to watch TV the most as a kid...during those long Ohio winters from January to March.

After the holidays, in the dead of winter, I like to enjoy gothic horror. Mario Bava's Black Sunday is a great choice. The howling wind and stark black and white cinematography. Also can't go wrong with a viewing of John Carpenter's The Thing on the snowiest day of winter. Lots of Hammer films are fun to watch in the winter also. Horror movies: They're not just for Halloween.

in the u.k. there has always been a tradition of horror at christmas.throughout the 70's we got a ghost story for christmas.there have been sporadic ones ever since.i think it goes back to a christmas carol which is really a ghost story.i always watch the fearless vampire killers at christmas very nice if it's cold and snowing.

No, actually I've been stuck on the H&I (Heroes and Icons) channel and watching all Star Trek, particularly DS9 and Voyager. But on Thanksgiving Day, after the parade, it's Hallmark time!

And I love The Waltons too. But it just wasn't the same after Maryellen got married.
