dontcha hate when people do that? my wife rescued(and gave away) a black puppy pug a couple of months ago. the guy was going to shot it, since it hadnt gotten it's adult coat yet..it was like 6 mths old at the time...people are stupid..
kudos for you saving her...
They are two different styles within the breed. The first being super wrinkely with a very course coat and second with some wrinkle but generally tighter skin and a smooth coat. That is what mystique is. In both kinds they loose almost all their wrinkles as they mature.

They can be very challenging if you aren't a dog person or don't have the patience. Shar-Peis tend to be very aloof and don't respond well to conventional training (generally speaking- of course some do). They're not super friendly and cuddly *except* with their people, and that bond can take longer to develop than with a lot of dogs.
I never knew anything about them AT ALL until we rescued our mutt- a Shar-Pei/German Shepherd mix...
One thing I'll say about our boy because of his mix - AMAZING watchdog when he wants to be.
"If you take a dog which is starving and feed him and make him prosperous, that dog will not bite you. This is the primary difference between a dog and a man."
