I started playing in the 7th grade, moved, had no one to play with in 8th, found some folks in high school and played through junior year but had no time senior year, found some folks in college, then different folks after college, stopped playing in '98 or so and then met the woman who would become my wife who was an ardent gamer in 2001 and have been playing since, and even freelanced for a while between 2005-2007 writing for some 3rd party companies. I think I've played every edition/version of D&D and dozens of other tabletop rpgs, minaiture cames, and what not over the years.

Man, there are a ton of games in there I recognize from playing with my buddies from about 6th Grade to Sophomore year in high school or so. It was mostly D&D early on, but we also dabbled in Traveller, Car Wars, Villains and Vigilantes, and TOON from time-to-time. Lost Worlds from Nova was also a crowd-pleaser for a couple of years. We also threw some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in there, too. But, since we were all comic book nerds, once TSR came out with their Marvel Comics game, that was where we really dedicated our attention.

A couple other games that we played were Combots, and then the underrated board games Wabbit Wampage and Wabbit's Wevenge from Pacesetter.

Oh wow I forgot about Wabbit Wampage. Tried that too. I had a couple of games from Pacesetter too, Star Ace and Time Masters.

Was Lost Worlds the one where each character had a booklet and you chose moves (each page was a move with a list of how it interacted with other characters or some such) that you had to compare with your opponent's move to figure out the outcome?

When we were gaming there was one kid (much like the kid Brian and Jason refer to in their own pasts on Pod Stallions) who had everything-all the games from all the publishers, all the modules, all the miniatures, etc. When we played D&D with him, it was using the Role Master rules from ICE. Way too complicated, but it did lead me to the Lord of the Rings stuff form ICE which fed my growing Tolkien fandom.

I had the first MArvel Heroes game form TSR, and the Indiana Jones game that used the same ruleset. I had the 2 sets ot metal minis for Marvel Heroes TSR did too. Also had the first DC Heroes game form Mayfair but couldn't get anyone to play that one, but never got any of the minis for that one.

As a huge Conan fan, I got the Conan stuff from TSR for D&D and the minis for it too. Even started on some of the Lankhmar stuff before comics started taking up all my spending money later in high school.

I totally forgot about the Indiana Jones game. I had it but never got around to playing it.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Yes, they only just published the new Advanced Tunnels & Trolls rules and have been doing updates to some of the classic solo dungeons and so forth. It looks nice; I kinda want to pick it up. But I also kinda like playing with the old classic stuff...it just has that nice musty old game smell, doesn't it?

That's pretty cool and the TI 5100 really adds to the classic vibe

I loved D&D growing up only problem was I never had anyone to play that stuff with. I use to like reading thru the rules and the related gamebooks and novelizations. Use to paint mini's too. Always preferred anything with fantasy over superheroes and sci-fi.

This weekend I was at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, and was ecstatic to see that MetaArcade had a booth set up where they were demoing their new Tunnels & Trolls digital adaptation for mobile devices! I took a seat, put some headphones on, and played a few rounds of Naked Doom (a classic T&T solo dungeon from back in the day) on a tablet. While the game at this stage is very sparse and basic, it was a lot of fun especially since I never played the Naked Doom dungeon and always wondered what it was like (brutal isn't even the half of it!). Then I left with some free swag including a Tunnels & Trolls button and a new solo dungeon by original game creator Ken St. Andre.

Here's an article from their booth at Gen Con 2016 showing basically what I saw:

I loved it, but if I am to be honest about it I can see myself and maybe about 3 other guys who used to play T&T wanting to purchase this game. I just can't see it being very successful, as much as I'd like it to be.
