Just got a recording call from some kind of lawyer.

It said i'm under criminal investigation - something to do with the internal revenue service ... and to call them back.

That's a BS scam, right ?

Yup. That's a scam.

My old phone was hacked by a virus, that stated I was under investigation for child pornography and that it would cost me a good 150 dollars payable via paypal to unlock my phone. I smelled 'SCAM', right away, as the Justice Department doesn't take any money via Paypal!

I took my phone to my dealer, and traded it in for a new one. The old one couldn't be salvaged, so it was recycled.

Isn't it amazing the kind of depths that people will stoop to in order to scam their fellow man?

Definitely a scam. The Federal Government, whether it be FBI, IRS, CIA, DEA, etc., very, very, very rarely contact individuals via a telephone. More likely via the USPS, a court-appointed warrant server or coming and knocking on your door. We've had so many of these screwy scam calls, we keep the FTC's phone number on speed dial.

It definitely sounds like a scam...I don't believe the fed's peruse collection activity like that...you would have received MANY previous notices, contacts, and a Case Number and Worker prior to ANY collection activity of this magnitude.

They called me too, three times, and w/ a different call back number each time, and the 3rd time, the recording was slowed down like a tape recorder losing it batteries. @@

This is on the local news about once a month. Total scam. The IRS ( or any tax agency for that matter) does not contact anyone by phone. They would send you a certified letter you need to sign for only.
Hang up immediatly.
