    OUCH!

Okay, so I am converting a resin Captain Kirk head into another character through sculpy additions.

I bake it, paint it and upon examination, decide I should carve off a little hair.

I get my exacto knife with newly installed #11 blade. I start to carve at the hair and the knife slips and slashes my left thumb around the top knuckle.

Well, it didn't look like anything happened for a couple seconds but then a red line developed on the thumb and then came the red veno on tap.

Sort of reminded me of those movies where they slice cleanly though someone and it takes a few seconds for them to split apart

I Think I'll leave the hair the way it is for now.

Anyhow, it bled like hell for a few minutes until the platelets kicked in. I washed it off, bentadined and bandaged it. Prognosis is good for a complete recovery.

But I feel stupid. Then I remember I use exacto knives all the time and this is the first time in a long time that I cut myself.

You forgot to close that up with some superglue. Heard it works wonders, especially for clean cuts. Sorry you had to experience that, though.

That's the trouble with a new blade dude...it's such a clean cut that it takes time to open up,a few seconds before you feel the pain, then time to heal. Hope your digit gets well soon.

It must be something about the Captain Kirk head. Maybe he's annoyed that so many people use him to make other characters. Or maybe he just doesn't like his hair messed with. I had a similar experience the other day. I was trying to slice off some of his hair for a custom head. My exacto blade slipped and got the underside of my index finger, directly above the joint. The cut is about 3/4" long and once it started bleeding, it took a while to stop. I had to wrap it in guaze for the next two days, because it was so sore. It looks to be healing nicely now, just a little tender. Always fun explaining how it happenend when people notice the bandages.

I refuse to read this thread if everyone is going to recount their stories of slicing through their own fingers! My hands are going limp from all this talk of blood and gauze and whatnot!

Hate to say it but I've done that. It is realy strange how it takes a bit befor the flow starts.

My dumbest thing was holding a bit of threaded rod in my teath while I put a light up with my hands. I saw the little bit of white flick out of my mouth. the thought that went thru my head at that point was "S--t that don't grow back."

It's actually not hurting too bad and I think that's because I kept it from getting infected. It does open up now and again because of the action of the knuckle (trying to avoid to much movement)

My buddy is into R/C airplanes and one day at the field got into a prop with his finger. We use a brand that's called zap but it's a Cyanoacrylate. Stops the bleeding, and no scar. He didn't even go to the hospital. Just cleaned it and glued the nice leafy piece of skin down and kept on flying.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I think any kind of superglue works (except for the gel kind). I have tried superglue on papercuts and while not as deep as what you suffered, it closes the wound nicely. The gel kind of superglue just makes a mess and won't dry fast enough, because I've tried that too.
