We used to have a place here in Louisville called "Ear Xtacy" that usually had a great selection of movie scores and OSTs, some stuff I couldn't even find online. Sadly, they went under about two years ago and there are very few brick-and-mortar stores here locally where I can track that stuff down. The two area Barnes & Nobles carry a fair selection, but nothing really unique or hard to find. I'm afraid I'm pretty old school when it comes to stuff like movies scores and music in general; I like to have a physical copy, something concrete that I can look at as years pass by. Unfortunately, that era seems to be headed the way of the dodo bird. I am always glad to see some new vinyl when it hits shelves, but sadly, many studios don't seem too interested in making scores/soundtracks available in that format.sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

LOVE Amoeba! Try and pop in there every time I'm in L.A.
I do have a soundtrack question though. Does anyone know if the soundtrack for the movie Arcade from 1993,with Seth Green,Megan Ward,Peter Billingsley,John de Lancie and otheres,is available anywhere? There's this one song stuck in my head,Israel by Peter Kenvin and Rick Harchol, and I really need to find that song, lol. Think it was released on Terrortune Music. The movie is really bad,but fun to see Seth Green in some early stuff, and Peter Billingsley in something other than that Christmas movie, lol.
I LOVE soundtracks! My faves being Rocketeer,Galaxy Quest,Explorers,Flight of the Navigator,Starman, and some of the usual fare like SW,ST,E.T.,and Superman. And I don't mind soundtracks with songs either. Have discovered quite a few bands that way.

Right on! Top shelf picks there. Explorers isn't for everyone, and I know it isn't Goldsmith's "best" score, but it's probably my favorite from him, along with Twilight Zone the Movie.Comment

Too many scores to pick a favorite. Goldsmith was always my favorite, because he was ready to tackle any genre, trying all sorts out-of-the-box ideas (like in POTA). Great at romantic themes and hard-driven action. First Blood is one of my favorites from him, Outland, Capricorn One, Innerspace.
I love Williams, he also scored some films that are mostly forgotten, like Dracula, which has a fantastic "doomed romantic" feel to it.
Lalo Schifrin did so much more than his epic Mission Impossible scores, such as Amityville Horror, which is nice and dark, making great use of the grand piano.
Basil Poledouris' Conan (buy the 3CD which has hours of music!)..

Capricorn One, Innerspace. Cap One is the template for 80s action scoring. Love it. Innerspace is like Explorers on speed. You have to embrace the 80s synths, but it's so endearing.
Dracula - The only "golden age" (1975-1984) Williams score to not get a decent expansion. The film score is so different than the album presentation. This is my holiest of grails, but sadly there are rumors that the masters are lost. Only poor sounding mono masters are said to remain.
Amityville Horror This one is a home run. So eerie. If you like this, I recommend Harry Sukman's Salem's lot, which is a bit more traditional, but also a bit Herrmannesque.
Basil Poledouris' Conan So, so good.Comment

I must give Salem's Lot a try. I hope to pick up a suitcase full of soundtracks next month, when I'm in the US...
Thanks for the info, my friend!.

That's also one of my favourites. A really great John Barry soundtrack.
I also like pretty much everything Basil Poledouris did, especially Conan and Robocop.
Horner and Goldsmith are also amongst my favourite composers, along with of course John Williams.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

I like Horner, though some of his scores are very close to each other. I guess time constraints made him borrow from himself..
