Just checking to see if anyone here is in the floodzone in the Baton Rouge area. I came out fine but my in-laws lost everything. Their home took on 4 feet of water. I have always heard the term "lost everything", but I never really understood it until now. When you see someone you love holding everything they own in one box and are now homeless, it hit home like a ton of bricks. We have started gutting the house. Everything is out including the carpet. We started pulling sheet rock today. They are in their 80's and have to start over from scratch. All their clothes are ruined due to bacteria in the water. They each have a couple changes of clothes.
She was able to recover all keepsakes, photos, jewelry, etc. They had about 45 minutes to get what they could, water came up so fast.
On a lighter note, we found out my mother in law is a hoarder, but not like the ones you see on TV. She is a hoarder with OCD. We pulled up one bed, she had over 100 lamp shades under it. We found over 40 lamps neatly placed behind furniture, in closets, etc . These were not being used, I am talking about lamps being stored for some unknown reason. We found 300+ plates throughout the house. Everything from fine china, to decorative, and day to day use plates. They would be neatly staked, newspaper between each, never used.
It reminds me of the "Friends" episode when Chandler opened Monica's secret closet, but her closet was messy. My mother in law's stuff was neatly placed. Her house was so clean, you could eat off of the toilet seat. She cleaned that house everyday because she is OCD and a germaphobe.
