Your old amusement park haunts ...

We did a similar thread like this a few years back but thought it was time to revisit the subject.

Growing up, name the amusement parks you used to frequent ... (and whether they still exist today)

Use the (when you were 0-20 years old) as a guide.

My list ... (in no order)

Palisades Amusement Park, NJ ---- gone today

Bertrand Island Amusement Park, NJ ---- gone today

Dorney Park, PA ---- still open and very popular

Bushkill Park, PA ---- gone today

Coney Island, NY ---- still open

Action Park, NJ ---- still open but in a different form with less lethal rides

Other than the CNE or when the conklin midway rolled up, we didn't get much here growing up.

We were however home to the "World's Largest Go Cart Track" at Family Cartways. It was owned by friends of the family too, so i got some free rides and video games. It's a crappy shopping plaza and town houses now.

      Knotts Berry Farm

      Locally:

      Fun Forest at Seattle Center

It's closed now...replaced by a Dale Chihuly glass museum and an alternative radio station. Thanks to Seattle Liberals

I heard it was recently reopened and they were even looking to reopen that tube slide with the loop in it that so many people got hurt on it was shuttered permantly

Mostly Kings Island in Mason, OH (near Cincinnati). Went there multiple times through my youth. They had Hanna-Barbera Land! It was actually where the amusement park scenes in The Banana Splits was filmed.

Also somewhere in nearby Middleton, Ohio was a smaller park called Americana. Went on a few church youth group trips there. Not as big, but less busy, and easier to get on rides. They had the biggest log flume ride I ever rode in my life. HUGE drop on that one, as I recall.

Kentucky Kingdom opened in Louisville in the late 80s/early 90s, and then eventually was bought by Six Flags. I remember both versions. Six Flags pulled out several years back, but the original part of the park reopened last year,.

The House on the rock. Still going strong.

The House on the Rock is a dazzling retreat & display built atop a chimney of rock in Southern Wisconsin.Get details on this one-of-a-kind attraction here!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I grew up in the town right beside Crystal Beach amusement park (in Crystal Beach, Ontario, closed in 1989), right on the shores of Lake Erie. In the first half of the 20th century it was a huge deal, steamboats would bring thousands of patrons over from nearby Buffalo, NY every day. It had tons of rides, arcades, midways, a huge dance hall, etc. It was past it's prime by the time I visited there in the 70's and 80's but I still have incredibly fond memories of the place, I really wish it was still there so I could take my kids. Now the property contains houses and condos by the lake where rich people live.

The other park close to me is Fantasy Island in Grand Island, NY. I didn't go there as much as a kid because of Crystal Beach being much closer, but once that closed, Fantasy Island became our go to amusement park. It's still operating today.

Just curious, how much of this park is still there? I was in NYC this past weekend and was debating if we should have tried checking the place out. Parts of the TV show "Mr. Robot" (excellent show BTW) are filmed there and it doesn't look like there is much left these days.

                      I haven't been there since 1998 -ish.

I wrote still open because Wikipedia said it's still opened to some extent under a different name than Astroland

As a 1970's Ohio child, the holy order of fun included the mighty Idora Park, historic Conneaut Lake Park, wacky & unpredictable Geneva on the Lake and godhead Cedar Point.

Honorable mention to Kings Island, home of the Banana Splits and where my parents bought me the AHI Dracula that's still in my collection.

Even as a kid, Sea World seemed wrong to me after seeing the Orcas. Of course that water cannon pirate ship and super hero ski-jumping show was pretty cool.

Currently, Coney Island has two amusement parks — Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park — as well as several rides that are not incorporated into either theme park. Coney Island also has several other visitor attractions and hosts renowned events as well. Coney Island's amusement area is one of a few in the United States that is not mostly owned by any one entity.[21]:153

The current amusement park contains various rides, games such as skeeball and ball tossing, and a sideshow, including games of shooting, throwing, and tossing skills. The rides and other amusements at Coney Island are owned and managed by several different companies and operate independently of each other. It is not possible to purchase season tickets to the attractions in the area.

Ah, Geneva on the Lake, still fun and wacky. Maybe it's all the wineries.

I loved and still miss Sea World.
