Getting stink out of old newspaper? - Hunter S Thompson Rolling Stone magazines

I bought these garage selling today. They are in fairly nice condition, but they stink to high hell. I remember reading here many years ago someone doing this same thing. Does anyone here know how to do this?

Ralph Steadman covers, Hunter S Thompson articles, Rolling Stone magazines, including "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".

can you use softener sheets? My wife uses them with stinky dolls.

Usually the old musty smell is caused by the paper itself deteriorating (caused by small amounts of moisture)

Masking the smell really isn't helping preserve the piece.

I would take them out of the plastic and let them air out in a nice cool dry room for a few days (perhaps longer).

After they start smelling less put them back in plastic magazine bags --- but not the same ones they were in.

Make sure the new bags are acid free.

If there's any piece that's particularly valuable you might consider putting acid free sheets of paper between each page (so paper don't touch paper)
