Anyone have tips for getting smoke smell out of a book/magazine? Bought a Playboy "periodical" at an antique show and didn't really realize it reeks of smoke until we got it home.

With a fabric softener in a sealed baggie for a few days ?

I've personally tested the whole Baking Soda in a sealed container on some old children's books I've bought...and that has worked...but...

I've been told that in order to kill any Mold/Mildew that may exist (because it spreads), you will need to either Freeze or Microwave (removing any metal staples) the periodical...this I have not tried yet.

Lastly...there is a product by Gonzo (Shout Out to Flynne ) that can also be used...I've attached a video below that came up about it on You Tube:

I usually let it sit open in the garage for a few days then the dryer sheet method if needed. Use the unscented ones.

My Dad smoked the entirety of his life, right up until the day he went into the hospital. As a result, quite a few of my older back issues comics and hardback/paperback books greet me with the smell of stale Lucky Strike smoke when I open them up. I've tried many, many, MANY ways to get the smell out, but I've had only limited success. I do notice that as more and more time passes, the smell slowly dissipates, but I don't know that they'll ever be completely free of the smell. The comics and magazines that are on shiny/glossy stock have less smell than the others, presumably because their surfaces are less porous. Please let me know if you happen across anything that works.
