    Your favorite defunct internet forums

You know if you think about it, us MM folks are pretty lucky. Since Facebook made the scene, most themed forums have gone the way of the dinosaur, but we're still hanging in there. There are some forums that I really miss a lot, and think fondly of them every now and then:

    Yesterdayland
Retroland (an offshoot by the owners of YL)
Memory Lane (another smaller offshoot of YL)

Memory Lane was (for a while) a tight knit little group. One of its members, was an announcer on a News Radio station, but on Christmas Eve, he'd play 24 hours of Christmas music, and we'd all stream it, and listen "together", make dedications and comment on the forum. I miss those days.

One of MM's lurkers, Allie Fox, was on one of these forums when I was (I think it was Retroland). And it's funny that we wound up here together.

So what were some of your favorite forums that no longer exist?

This was my first forum--I'm still glad it's here and I feel welcome here.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

GayAmputeeMidgetClownPorn.Forum What? Nobody else miss this site?
There was this 'Superbuddies forum' where we used templates of figures like paper dolls to design superhero characters. Using animated character designs as blank figures, people would design their own characters. It no longer exists in this form or forum. During my time there I contributed as much as I could. At my ComicArtFans member's gallery there are the rooms "Animated Blank Figures', 'Superboys Coloringbook', 'Supergirls Coloringbook' and 'Superbuddies', That show character design work. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=643

the Warren Ellis forum is very much fondly remembered and having a huge influence on the comics industry given the amount of pros and folks who became pros who hung out there discussing ideas that eventually took hold and became common place... such as the idea of in-print backlist trades taking the place of hunting down back issues, and a diversity of content that would lead to greater penetration into the mainstream bookstore marketplace.

Brian Bendis also hosted a fun comics community over at Jinxworld for a long time.

The Simpsons Collector Sector forum was HUGE during Playmates Toys 1999-2004 World of Springfield run, one of the busiest and most influential toy forums on the web at the time. I was heavily into the line and there everyday.

There used to be hundreds of posts/day back then, now there's about a dozen/year. Amazing. The forum owners keep it running for archival reasons, mainly..

I never knew about that forum, but I remember seeing those templates in use. Paul Riggs used to post a version with all of his customs.

Going to go a little off beat here. It's still exists, but in the early 2000's possibly pre-dating my membership here, I loved the Happy Days board at Sitcoms Online. Back then, since the reruns were in heavy rotation on TV Land and Nick at Nite is was very active. It's died out mostly with a surge of activity when they release a DVD season and discussion/outrage on how much if any original music is included. I still pop in from time to time but it's not the same.

Going back further, I used to follow rec.sport.prowrestling and alt.tasteless. There was also a site...something "mcgripes" where fast food workers talked about dysfunctional customers. The stuff on there was gold.

Ah yes, the newsgroups. I remember being heavy into the video tape trading newsgroups back in the late 90's, good times!
