Yeah Duncan is a true class act! He had a great mentor in David Robinson.Leave a comment:

One of the greats. It made me laugh when I read Popovich will be addressing the media tomorrow, but there are no plans for Duncan to address the media. That's just perfect for him.Leave a comment:

^^^ Yep. I saw retirement coming but he will go down as one of the great power forwards in the game. A class act all the way.Leave a comment:

and another Legend says good bye, Tim Duncan retires...after 19 incredible seasons he's calling it quits..Good for him, an instant Hall of famer and one the the few genuine nice guys of the NBA...took pay cuts and did what he had to to win..and never complained about it and threw a hissy fit when he didn't get his way or the money back that he felt was owed to him for taking those pay cuts.. Greatest power forward of all time.Leave a comment:

My issue with Lebron wasn't his leaving Cleveland. It was that big entrance gala he put on with Wade and Bosh. It was like a kick in the nads to the Cavs. He wanted a title and that's fine. Boston went through it when Ray Bourque left the Bruins. Fans hated to see him go. He was as beloved as a sports icon could be, but Boston was in no position to give him the one thing he couldn't win on his own. Off to Colorado and he got his title. We even let him bring the cup here as a member of another team. Most fans aren't stupid. They understand that some teams are nowhere near competing sometimes. If the departure is handled correctly, most understand the reasoning. I can see OKC fans being upset. Their team could easily have been a contender for the title next year if Durant had stayed. I personally don't think Kerr is that great of a coach. Will be interesting to see how those egos react when someone doesn't see enough ball time. While the optics might seem similar, Lebron left a one-man team in Cleveland. Nothing was being built around him while Miami was trying to build a championship caliber organization. When Cleveland made the commitment, he came back and now they have a championship. The Durant situation is different because Oklahoma had committed to building a winning team and Durant looks like he's just jumping on a bandwagon. Plus he said he left the Thunder because he didn't get the ball enough even though he led the team with more shot attempts (even besting Westbrook). So seeing him go from that to a complete team environment is going to be a sticky situation. Like I was telling Hector earlier, I think he'll come to regret that move. The Warriors lost as many games in the playoffs as they did the entire season, so teams have them figured out. My feeling is they will have to completely reconfigure their approach and that won't come overnight with new players in the fold and expectations through the roof from fans and the media. Every time they lose, they'll be asked if the championship loss is a factor. I suspect it will get ugly in Golden State before it gets better.Leave a comment:

if it means winning it all in the end who cares how many they win lol.... they already have the record, now it should be all about championshipsLeave a comment:

They need to take the Spurs approach and work in some rest throughout the season so they're fresh.I think you have to factor that into this equation because these guys have been on a deep run in the playoffs and championship for a couple of years now and the wear and tear is beginning to show up with more frequency. Factor in the extra playing time to claim a record number of wins in the regular season and I'm sure players like Curry are doing some heavy R&R right now. You can't blame him and James for skipping the Olympics since both will be tested early and often next season.
Whoops, just saw hedrap basically said the same thing.Leave a comment:

I'm interested to see how Silicon Valley Warriors fans deal with Kerr doing the Pop and resting players. The old-school Oakland fans will be fine with it, but IMO the San Fran audience are going to bail when nearly 10 home games are lost and it's only a 60-65 win season.Leave a comment:

This post epitomizes the lunacy of the NBA - players picking and choosing who goes where based on being buddies.Wade is from Chicago. He's said since the Shaq days he would finish his career there. Also, the original LeBron-Wade deal was for both to go Chicago, (Derek Rose killed that talk). Riley did try and make a final run when he picked up Deng and Johnson. If Bosh wasn't finished, they would've beat Toronto and been in the East Finals. That was the best single-Wade exhibition since Shaq left. Wade is not looking for 30+ minutes every night. He needs a deep back court to split time with cause the dude is seriously injury-prone. To me, it looks as if he wanted to go CLE but when they broke down what needed to be done - trade Shump, release JR - it became self-defeating. Wade would have been clocking huge minutes cause the Cavs need to have the best league record at all costs for home court. It also appears a byline for Wade's signing was CLE gets Dunleavy. Competitive inter-conference teams never make moves like that, but LeBron apparently wanted Dunleavy since the Miami days, (and got Mike Miller instead). His salary makes it possible to keep JR and Shump, too. Cavs still need another 4/5 player.Leave a comment:

yea I remember when Wade turned Rondo into Gumby
man if Miami can some how snag an elite player we'd be right back in it. Whiteside will be better this year and the main guy, Bosh I have a feeling is healthy again, and Dragic is really good.. Not to mention to young talents in Winslow and Richardson.. One more guy and we're good.. we trust in riley down hereLeave a comment:

Can't stand Rondo. Sad that Chicago is set up to fail. I like Wade, he's an elite player, but he can't carry that team.Leave a comment:

Pretty much of what I'm hearing from SB Nation and Yahoo. In gauging the temperature of a number of local Bulls fans, I'm having a tough time finding anyone who even remotely thinks this is a good idea and that Wade has much, if anything, left in the tank. The only ones talking about this and making noise are the same bloated gasbags that always seem to pop up on ESPN.
We just had a Finals series that displayed some incredible shooting, with guys hitting shots from all over the court. It's obvious to everyone in the world that the way to a Championship is with superstars and guys who can drain from anywhere. Even better if your superstars are the ones hitting all those threes. So, the Bulls got rid of a dinosaur, defensive-minded coach and brought in a hotshot who seemed to have a grasp on how to spread the floor and balance an offense in today's NBA.
Well, it was a total failure. The team didn't mesh. The coach couldn't coach. And, when he tried, the superstars undermined his up-tempo, passing-based, spread offense in favor of isolation and contested shots with 3 seconds left on the shot clock. They kept the biggest underminer (Butler) and shipped off the other in Rose. They got rid of the true leader of the team in Noah. Then, they claimed they were going to get younger and more athletic while they "retooled." Now, they've given a coach who emphasizes the 3 point shot a point guard who can't shoot from 2-point range, let alone 3, a mid-30s broken-down shooting guard who can't hit from 3 and really only likes an offense that allows him to hold the ball in his hands, and a SF who can't hit consistently from outside and can't lead his team out of a paper bag. Plus, they're pairing Rondo and Wade, the same two guys who hate each other based off of Wade dislocating Rondo's elbow a couple years ago on a dirty, cheap play.
Yeah, this is going to work.
Teams are going to pack the lane against the Bulls and dare them to hit anything at all from outside. Wade needs driving lanes to score, and they're not going to be there. Defenses are going to sag off of Rondo, knowing he can't score, and there's no consistent inside presence to take even the smallest bit of pressure off the backcourt. ESPN was blathering about how the Bulls are looking at being a 5-6 seed next year and possibly making the second round of the playoffs. In what world does that happen? How does Wade not miss at least half the season as teams just whale on him whenever he goes into the clogged lane? How does Rondo not have a complete and utter meltdown, just like in every other season he's had for a half-decade or so? How does everyone else not tune out Butler as he talks and talks and talks and then undermines his coach? This team has a 34-48 record tattooed all over it.
For me, the best case scenario is that Wade and Rondo square off against each other in the first practice of the season and then hit each other repeatedly in the groin until they're both placed on the Injured List for all 82 games.
The only plusses that came out of the whole thing is that they didn't have to get rid of any young talent (and it's debatable if there's any on the roster to begin with) to sign Wade and that maybe (big maybe), future free agents see that Wade wanted to sign here when there was more money on the table elsewhere (Denver) and finally consider Chicago a destination. Considering that our biggest FA pull over the past decade has been a washed-up Pau Gasol, that might be something.
I'm just going to go throw up for a couple hours now and start posting videos of all of Wade and Rondo's dirtiest plays for any fool who thinks this has potential to be good.Leave a comment:
