    Hey James

that's a cool idea bro,but honestly I think she'll regret that later, make sure she gets something she really wants

about the needle thing,I was too. You'll know as soon as you walk in a place if it's clean or not.Even if you have to pay a little more somewhere else, look for the nice clean ones

None at the mo but have been thinking about getting my daughters name on my arm in old style caligraphy and a nice tribal one.

My bro got a Dragon which starts at his chest and goes over his shoulder down his back,he looks like a Yakuza over 30 hours work went into doing the tattoo.

Being cautious is a very good thing to be.Like T2C said earlier you will know as soon as you walk in to the place about the cleanliness of the shop and the workers. When I first looked around I went to several shops before I settled on one.First thing I asked was if I could watch him work(to see his precautions and procedures)
The work area is sterilized before any customer enters the area,Gloves apron, clean plastic layed down on work area before each customers eyes.Needles are fresh and clean from a sterile sealed package, and used only once then discarded.disposable ink trays(cups) very clean.A tattoo shop inspector does visit the store randomly every month looking for any violations he gave the inspectors name and number to me before I made any appointment.I was very impressed with who I settled on and have been going to this guy for over ten years. There is a lot more to it but if you see a shop with anything less than that kind of service just walk away as the risk to you and your family just is not worth it.Good luck and once you get past that fear there is nothing stopping you.
And be careful as Tattoos are addicting...Muwahahahahaha

Don't have any and job wise, glad I don't. Work has a no visible tattoo policy, so its great seeing the inked up guys sweat it out in the summer in long sleeves and pants.

To me, tatoo's are like having sombody magic marker your body with their highschool scribble FOREVER.

Do you really want to be 65 years old with a skull tatoo'ed on your flabby arm ?

                    Worst thing ever ........
Chicks with a tatoo right above their butt-crack

                    Can't think of a WORSE chick turn-off

                    Lady's --------- PLEASE
                    Don't tatoo above your ***

Not into tattoos at all but hey, more power to you if you like them. I almost got one when I got back from Panama. I was proud to have seen action and wanted everyone to respect it. Not too many Air Force members see true combat. I just figured that I didn't need to announce it to the world so I backed out. I was cocky then and would have regretted it later on. Like I said though, more power to you guys.

Are you going all the way up your leg?

                          To me,

Forgive me for being old fashioned --- and I guess it is art in many peoples eyes........

But to me it would be like having dirt on my feet that I won't ever be able to wash off

no, the bones stop there. no need or desire to go any higher.

and yeah, every now and then I forget when I look down. never makes me think dirt though. I think what helps in that aspect with me is that I make myself wait a long time between thinking I want a tattoo and actually going and getting it done (normally a year) so by the time I have one I am mentally used to having something there. I almost get myself to think that it would be weird without something there.

and as for it being art....maybe. I consider a tattoo artist to be an artist, but very rarely to never do I see a tattoo on a person and think "art" before I think "just something to do" ....but I am one who doesn't bother trying to attach some meaning to everything, my bone legs don't have any deep message or social commentary...I just wanted bone legs.

I'm curious who did them... I used to know everybody tattooing in Flint. Now there are some young guys I don't know since I haven't lived there in a while, but met a lot of them in Feb when I was back home for my buddy's funeral. Most everyone knows who I am as I was one of the OG Flint tattooers.
And do I know you somehow? Me = Nathan King. Your pic looks familiar and Flint is a small space-time continuum, in which we Flintoids find and bump into one another around the globe.
Happened to me a couple weeks ago. Met a girl I went to school with and was in my graduating class. We didn't remember each other but my point remains valid.

While attention to cleanliness in paramount, also LOOK AT THE ARTISTS PORTFOLIOS. It just doesn't matter how clean someone is if your artist cannot tattoo his way out of a wet paper sack. Generally cleanliness and ability go hand in hand... but be sure to find someone whose style suits the material you want tattooed.
