Corporate greed never ceases to amaze me...

Barnes and Noble is having a sale this week through Sunday of 40% off all DVDs and Blu-rays, so I wanted to catch up on some titles I've been missing. Plus if you have their card you get an additional 10%.

Prior to the sale I was told anything I special ordered would be discounted also, provided it was in store for pickup during the week of the sale. So I ordered a few oldies and was going to order Star Trek: The Next Generation the Complete Series box set.

Mind you, this was at THEIR suggestion since I would be saving close to $90 on the set. Now I order pretty regularly so I'm in their system and can always just pick up the phone, give them my list and they call me when they're in. The Trek set, however is pre-pay only I'm told. No problem. I say I'll order and pay for it when I pick up the other titles I ordered.

So I go pick up my other Blu-rays yesterday and try to order the Trek set...it's gone from their system. I'm told it's not available. "How can that be?" I ask. "It's a new release, and it was in your system just a few days ago. I saw it myself online, and was quoted a price."

Then I was quietly taken aside by one of their associates who I'm pretty good friends with and told the truth. Well it turns out when they have these 40% off sales, they REMOVE some higher priced items from their inventory so you can't buy them! I couldn't believe it...that is total BS. And to top it off, ALL Disney and Marvel movies are also excluded from the sale at Disney's demand. Because you know, Disney doesn't have ENOUGH money.

At the art supply store I can't get Smooth-on products cheaper when they have sales, or use coupons. They had a 20% off everything sale and wouldn't discount my resin. And refused my 10% off coupon. I feel your frustration!

I understand the frustration overall with corporate greed abd particularly with B&N. I often got annoyed when, as a member, those B&N coupons come in the mail for 20% off in addition to the members discounts, but those coupons are nearly solely intended for books.

Hobby Lobby puts 40% off coupons in the weekly paper. I see the Michaels coupons less often. I will take a coupon in and buy 1 foam board. I need 6 but will buy them 1 at a time to save money. I know this is not how they intend them to be used, but that is the risk you take, that someone will figure out the most profitable way to use it.

Barnes and Nobles is still around? They closed up all the FLA stores years ago.

            Are you thinking of Borders?
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

It is possible. Kmart pulled out of here years ago, but we occasionally get insulted by their commercials.
