Anybody else watching the Roots remake ?

    Loved the original ...

I think the fact of having a whole bunch of established "good guy" white actors playing the nasties is what made the original work on different levels ... Ben Cartright, Mike Brady, Lloyd Bridges, Chuck Connors, Sandy Duncan all playing total a__holes somehow made their characters that much worse.

    been watching the remake.

Remake is ok, but I don't recognize much of the cast so it's impact isn't the same.

    What do you think ?

Liking it so far...good acting...brutal...big budget, and not so one-sided as the original...in this one...you have bad Africans selling murdering and selling their own...and some whites showing sympathy and emotion, like when Kunta Kente was getting whipped...you could see the white female master was horrified...not as black and white as the original.

    Pretty good...

I recorded it. We will watch the entire thing when we have the time. Looking forward to it.

Never watched the older one, but fancy having a go? Which one should I watch first?

^ I'd say the older one because for nostalgia's sake it was a huge TV event here in the US.

At the time it was TV's version of Star Wars for hype.

Yeah, but the original one is so outdated...it plays like a soap opera nowadays. The new one looks and feels like a movie...it should...as it cost $50 million to make...

Couldn't sit through part one of the reboot. I prefer the original. Wonder how long it will be before Rich Man Poor Man, Shogun, and Martian Chronicles get remade.

Liked Martin Chronicles but never had the urge to see the other two.

                Did like Shaka Zuku too.
