Do people buy from Craigslist anymore ?

My nephew is moving and gave me a few things to sell.

Been on Craigs 2 weeks and not even getting spam emails

Just wondering since I haven't used Craigs in a long time, is it on the outs ?

He might give me some bigger stuff (furniture) and wondering how I should try and sell it.

I use it to buy, seldom to sell.

I do Craigslist all the time...mostly buys (my biggest purchase was my current 64 1/2 Mustang). I do sell once in a while...mostly large stuff that can't be shipped. Have sold furniture in the past...heck...even cars. Sold my old truck last year through Craigslist...

I think my problem might be i'm only listing stuff on the Pocono Craigslist.

I should be doing Northern NJ too (considering I live about a quarter mile from Jersey)

How'd that go? We're helping our 16-year-old buy a car, and we're looking on CL. I've never bought a used car that wasn't from a friend or family -- any tips? things to watch out for or avoid with a CL car purchase?

Don't buy anything without a mechanic looking at it first.

Most mechanics are happy to get a few bucks looking at cars for people (especially younger ones).

Kijiji is the one people use here (they are part owned by ebay I believe), my dad uses it all the time for buying and selling, I'm not sure if there's a US version?

and even then you still have to be careful..Bought my car there last year, took a mechanic and there were issues he didn't even see. I've already put about $1500 into it..But it's fine now lol

Well, $20K later, the Mustang is in tip top shape..

But that's a 54 year old classic car...it required a lot of investment, so it's a lot different than a modern car that's meant to be driven daily.

What I'd do...is find out what kind of neighborhood it is...bring along a friend. Never meet after hours. Do all your transactions in the middle of the day. Take down the registration (or ask for it before meeting up in person)...then Carfax it. And as Mike said...if the seller is cool and honest...he should've no problem whatsoever with both of you taking it to a mechanic of your choice for full inspection. The bill will be on you, but it's well worth it...better be safe than sorry. Both parties can even go to the DMV together, that's also a possibility (albeit a bit bothersome)...if you are willing to go through all that...and settle on an amount (never pay his asking price, always try to lower his price)...you could end up with a gem at a great price.

As a seller myself at times...I'm very open and honest. The engine of my truck (which I also bought off Craiglist eight years earlier) was leaking oil...and that's the very first thing I disclosed to my buyer. But he was an eager buyer...as my 92 Ford was a short bed (always a plus)...had zero rust (I do live in California after all)...had new tires, nice wheels/rims...no dents. It ran great, passed every smog...had an extensive mechanic's invoice sheets (you should ask for that too)...it was a great truck...low miles for its age (112K), everything nice except for that leaking oil. I also had the invoice on how much it would require to fix that oil leak...it needed cleaning and new head gaskets...we struck a deal...he bought in (cash)...and took the truck (he arrived with a friend). He emailed me two weeks later...he put in about $500 in repairs...the truck was good as new...he was a happy camper.

It pays to be honest on both ends, both seller and buyer.

Used car dealers also post on Craigslist...I bought my current truck from a dealership...bought it right after I sold my older truck...it's been a year since I bought it...the truck runs and performs perfectly. They also provided me with the Carfax info.

The truck I sold...which I loved...but over the years...I was wishing for A/C and an extra cab...

...and the truck I bought last year...

With my favorite back window sticker ever...

The car I bought was for my son and I looked at several before deciding on the 2005 neon I found on cl a little over an hour away from me. It was not without problems, but they were minor and I fixed them myself, the worst of which was a rear wheel bearing, that I had to replace before I could licence it, but it was a great talking point to get them to knock 200 dollars off the price they wanted and I knew I could fix it for less then 30.

I don't do Craigslist any more, except maybe to find neighborhood yardsales. Instead I belong to several Facebook bargain hunter groups. I feel more secure with Facebook because then I have some idea of with whom I'm dealing.

Here you go, pretty cheap...and it's a rather sizable window sticker...

Have washed the truck countless times...sticker is still brand new, great quality.

I get a lot of compliments, laughs...and thumbs up...
