Tower Records Documentary

I was a big fan when Tower Records opened up in the basement corner of Toronto's Eaton Centre. Even though Yonge street was overcrowded with record stores, I think Tower really distinguished itself with an amazing selection of imports, as well as books and magazines you couldn't find anywhere else.

Oh yeah, I loved their book and magazine selection, I bought lots of stuff at their big Yonge location.

Chris and I were just talking about Amoeba Records/Music in California.

I've been to the L.A. store and the San Francisco Haight/Ashbury stores.

Yep, that's right, I've been to their LA location, great store!

On my last trip to New York, I was sad to see that the Virgin Megastore in Union Square was gone too.


I'm just wondering if there are any more music/record/books type "Megastores" out there in North America anymore.

On Toronto's Yonge street, even the last record store standing, HMV is a shadow of it's former self. (Sunrise pulled out of downtown a year or so ago)

Ha, someone was using it as their avatar on another forum, and I liked it and stole it. I just thought it was a standard goat's head pentagram, I didn't know it was for a particular band. But I do like black metal, so I'll have to check those guys out.

Ha, that was like four avatars ago, I think. Sometimes I think of changing it back, Roger is awesome!

*sigh* That Yonge St pic above with A&A and Sam's makes me so sad, I miss that era when that street had such great stores.

They have just announced the Sam's neon records are returning to the strip.

if/when we make a road trip east to Montreal or whatever, we'll need to stop by Belleville. It has the last surviving Sam the Record Man.
