What happened to cable news ?

Why does all cable news have to carry the same story 24-7 ?

Not just talking about the airliner disaster but other things (you know what I mean)

I can't imagine anybody watching it for more than a few minutes.

I think that's the point, people put it on for a few minutes and then go away. Without getting political, I personally think the 24 news cycle has been somewhat detrimental to society in many ways.

I usually only watch local news 69 Allentown.

Believe it or not they covered (and still cover) the Canadian wildfires 2000 times more than any cable news channel.

Yeah I tend to watch "The News" when I want to know about something, I read more than anything. I don't have a lot of time for opinion, which is what all 24 hour cycle uses to fill in the gaps. There is too much "why is this news?" for me on those things.

Without making this a political discussion. There isn't a moderate news channel in the bunch. Even NPR has an agenda now.

            It goes without saying.

Cable news certainly has become tiresome. I do watch it, but lately it's really gotten old.

I rarely watch cable or network news nowadays. Maybe if a big breaking news event pops up, sure, I'll watch some coverage. But watching on an everyday basis...no, not interested.

Even the local news is getting out of control. Our channels start at 4, run until 6:30, break for network news, then another 1/2 hour at 7. Then back on at 10 & 11.
Worst of it is the endless fascination with the weather. 3 times the weather guy comes on per 1/2 hour, attempting to spin partly cloudy & 30% chance of rain into a disaster. Plus the amount of non-news in there, like taste testing new oreo flavors or celebrity crap.

I'd much rather see baking cookies than candidate no.1's full 24-7 coverage including a BREAKING NEWS interview everytime he blows a fart

What really turns me off is that there is very little actual reporting these days. Every reporter feels the need to give their opinion on a story instead of just presenting the facts. The language is really out of hand too. The local 6 o'clock news people use words I can't even type here.

Local news is just as bad. In Seattle every time we get a trace of snow it becomes a crisis of epic proportions and it's 24/7 wall-to-wall coverage of someone stuck on the freeway or some junk.

Oh yeah, although my wife and I kind of dig the hyperbole. Especially when it doesn't happen.

Yeah it's kinda one of those things where we end up watching it because the anchors and reporters just seem so ridiculously serious it blows my mind.

In Seattle we have pretty mild weather.

They do the same thing when it pours rain for a few days. One river floods and its like Noah's Ark is going to appear.

Ugh, I gave up on TV news years ago, it's all a joke. I just try to read news stories online and attempt to weed through all the biased crap. It ain't easy but I like to keep informed about important events.
