    Childhood theme parks

Anyone have a theme park they always visited in the summer?

When I was a kid it was a big thing to drive up to Nashville to go to Opryland and spend the day there.

This park always had a great new ride every year, and they really tried to keep the place fresh and fun.

However in 97 they closed the park and built a outlet mall in its place. But, I just heard the outlet mall is going bankrupt, and they are going to bulldoze it and build a new theme park in its place. Talk about History repeating itself.

Here is a nice website that has some great pics of the park.

I always wanted to go to the Six flags in Texas where the Banana Splits hung out. Wasnt that also the same park where that kid from Lidsville saw the magic show and fell into the giant hat?

In reality for me it was always Crystal Beach (Alot of our Canadian friends might remember that one) Also Fantasy Island in Grand Island NY.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
    Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

King's Dominion in Richmond, VA sticks out the most.

My parents weren't ones to take us to theme parks much but I do remember going to this one the most out any of them.

            We have

            Cedar Point: Sandusky, OH
            Kings Island: Cincinnati, OH
            Kennywood: Pittsburgh, PA

All within a relatively short driving distance from the Megomeet in case anyone want's to add to the fun that weekend. Kennywood and Cedar Point are historic land marks as they are among the few surviving Trolley Parks of the turn of the century 100 years ago.

Two favorite such places in my area...the Oakland Zoo and Six Flags Marine World.

I also loved the old boardwalk in San Francisco by the SF Zoo (which I did not like)...where it had that life-size mechanical lady that used to scare the living daylights out of me, lol.

                          The Land of Make Believe

Welcome to the Land of Make Believe!

Crazy as it sounds, it was only one mile away from my house --- but I never went because it was geared mostly for little kids.

Looks like they've expanded big-time today

                            Kennywood in Pennsylvania

Make a New Memory at Kennywood Park, Pittsburgh PA

Still there but I'm a long way from PA!

The Pavillion at Myrtle Beach. Closed 2 years ago and they moved some of the kiddie rides to a shopping center.

If anyone gets to California south of San Francisco go to Gilroy Gardens. Bottanical Gardens and themepark in one. Went last fall and my 3 and 6 year olds had a blast!
Too many toys. Not enough space!
