Non Web Magazine Subscriptions You've Had Throughout Your Life.

Sometimes I miss the days of looking up to getting a magazine in the mail ... Haven't had a subscription since the mid 90's ... Just wondering what subscriptions people here have had ... If you've had some racy ones don't write anything.

Mine off the top of my head ....

    Dynamite (through school of course)

    Starlog (early-mid 80's)

National Lampoon (in late 70's and very early 80's)

    Astronomy

    Popular Science

Omni -- really miss this one

Star Wars insider in mid 90's (loved the build up to the Special Editions and prequels) after released let down and cancelled.

    Lee's (action figure)

    White's (action figures)

    -----how about you ?

When I was a kid I subscribed to:

    Inside Wrestling
    The Wrestler
    Sports Illustrated
    MAD
    Cracked

As an adult I've subscribed to:

    ESPN the Mag (terrible now)
    Maxim (terrible now)
    FHM (no longer published)
    Stuff (gadget reviews, etc)
    Golf
    Wine Spectator
    SI

And many more. Now days I don't pay for any....just redeem unused airline miles.

Getting mags in the mail doesn't hold the same thrill for me that it used to.

Mad, Dynamite thru school, Rolling Stone, Model Railroader, Fine Scale Modeler, National Geographic, Comics Scene. I grew up in a teeny town in Illinois, so I had to subscribe to magazines once I found them in the big cities of Streator or Peoria.

I've had an Entertainment Weekly sub for 20 yrs, decided not to renew last year. I was forcing myself to sit down and read it, which took me less than 5 minutes. Just don't give a poop about the vast majority of "entertainment" anymore, and obviously the internet provides me with a much wider information conduit anyway..

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Let's flip the assumptions. Can you imagine what the information on this site would have been worth to your grade school self, if you had the funds? OR....your early 90's self before the internet? Information = money. The information on this site would have been a "goldmine", magazine-wise, in the years between when we started having extra-"fundage" and the rise of pervasive internet. ( And those years did overlap, briefly )

In other words, morn the magazine (and all print, for that matter) and behold!.....THIS!!!

I've had numerous subscriptions over the years, but the only one that I've kept consistently is Mad; think I'm paid up through 2022. I've bought numerous others - especially from websites offering subs for $5 or less - but I don't read them. Internet has replaced magazines for me.

Yeah, now when I hear a song that I like or have the urge to buy something or need to check grammar or I have a random question, I can get the song/product/answer within minutes on here. It's basically magic.

very young me - Cricket, Dynamite, Famous Monsters, Atari Age
medium young me - Dragon, A+
medium well me - Toyfare, Big Reel, Star Wars Insider, Cinefex, MacAddict
                          well done me - Make

My kids have some subscriptions to Cricket-like magazines and also the Lego Club. We all look forward to our paper fix, even tho most of the info is easily accessible online.
