At One Movie NOT Going CG - Land of the Lost

The director decided NOT to go CG for the Sleestaks in the upcoming movie version of 'Land of the Lost.' He tells USA Today the "guy-in-a-suit has it charms." Be warned, it is a comedy starring Will Ferrall (at least he has the right hair ) I'm looking forward to this take as I couldn't imagine a serious re-do without seriously re-doing the movie.

I'm still not going to see this movie, but at least they got the suit right.

I loved Land of the Lost as a kid. But I just don't like Will Ferrell. I might rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Oh, I'm there! I love that they're going to do a comedy of it, and I like WF a lot. I think I like him more, though, because my children ADORE him. Every time I hear new developments on this production, I get more and more excited for it!

I do agree with those who wanted to see this done seriously, though. That could have been a lot of fun as well. Who knows, with the remake/sequel fever Hollywood has been in for the past 20-odd years, that could still happen. I'm quite certain that's the reason we're seeing our favorite superheroes up on the screen in such generous numbers!

I don't know why anybody would want to see this done seriously? I mean come'on...the Original was pretty corny...so doing as a comedy, makes sense to Me. And...I love Will Ferrel, so I'll definately see it!

I'm so there, Land of the Lost was very real to me as a kid, as an adult it's pretty damned silly. I love it but I'm not afraid to see it get a poke taken out of it. The realistic Sleestak just cements things for me.

I think those Sleestaks are figurines modeled after the original show, not production art from the new film. Anyone care to elucidate this question?

As to the movie "NOT going CG" as the thread title says... I have my serious doubts. Sure, the Sleestaks will be dudes-in-suits, but what about the dinosaurs, the matte paintings and the photo compositing? Surely those elements will be CGI.

I dont like Will Ferrel but I will probably see the movie. Who knows they might pull off a surprise.

Its good the way they have gone old school with the Sleestacks.

But I am with Vortigern here about the dinosaurs and backgrounds.

It sounds good on paper. I do think making it a comedy or parody is the only way to make it work. I thought the Brady Bunch movie did this effectively.

Will Ferrell has had a lot of duds lately. I really like his sense of humor and his days on SNL were classic, Elf was really good, but lately his movies stink. Hopefully, he can turn it around.

If I can get action figures of these critters, I'll be able to forgive them for making one of my favorite childhood shows into a Will Ferrell comedy

I had a discussion with friends a few weeks ago about Land Of The Lost. I bought season 1 as soon as it came out on DVD since I loved it as a kid. After watching it as an adult, all I can say is god is it bad!!! One disagreed, but also hasn't seen it as an adult. Ferrell is a good choice IMO. Interesting trivia about Ferrell: his character in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back -Marshall Willenholly- was named after characters Marshall, Will and Holly from Land Of The Lost. Weird coincidence.
