what version of Cats in the cradle do you like best?

Hey guys,I was talking to a friend of mine about this song, which we both love.I love both versions...But I think I like the more Rock version of Ugly Kid Joe.So which do you prefer, the Ugly kid Joe or the Harry Chapin version? I'm pretty sure you guys are going to pick the old school one

I love Harry Chapin's version all the way.

I'm a huge Chapin fan, so it's obviously his version that I prefer.

A live performance, of course, is the best way to enjoy Harry's music.

Chapin or Stevens, no interest in UKJ's cover.

Never heard the other one so I'm going w/ the original.

If you guys liked late 80's early 90's Rock then you'll dig Ugly kid Joe's version,I'm not saying you'll like it better, but it just sounds awesome

I can assure you with 100% certainty that Cat Stevens has never done a version of "Cat's In The Cradle". Most people think he did it because either they don't know Harry Chapin's name or they got confused by a compilation album title called "Cat's Cradle" which consisted of early songs released on Steven's "Matthew & Son" and "New Masters" albums.

                      If there's interest,
would anyone want to participate in a round robin distribution
                      of Harry's live shows?

I will volunteer to burn a DVD or 2 full of concerts,
and send out as long as each recipient promises to copy it and send the original down the line.

Most of these are shows made available through one of the Chapin websites,
and since they generate no revenue and are shared free of charge,
I believe the Chapin family supports show trading, as long
as no commercially available material is included.

Originals are always best, but the Ugly Kid Joe version did have a cool darker feel to it, more from the child left behind's point of view. I like them both!

Love'em both and it is like comparing apples to oranges.UKJ is a grittier feel to it.Chapins is just a outright beauty of a song.A tear jerker if you will especially if you have a son yourself.Like I do then the song takes on a whole diffrent perspective.I used to work 60-70 hours per week.I now only work 40 and thats it!!!Largely in part to this song and something he said to me when he was 5.He is six now and we spend lots of time together....

Nothing like a song writer and his guitar. This version is my favorite.

I remember hearing on the radio that he had died. No need for me to look this up. I think it was close to the time that John Lennon was murdered and President Reagan was shot. As I remember, he was crushed in his sports car by a semi truck. What a sad ending to such a great story teller.
