Record Store Day is this Saturday

I'm gonna try and hit a few rekkid shops this weekend in between my fun agenda of landscaping and painting.

Anybody have a comprehensive list of exclusives available? I'm doing something wrong on google.

Every year I think I'm going to be okay to avoid it. The releases don't seem that great, or the re-issues seem like weird picks and unnecessary, but I always end up going out anyway.

I would't mind The Slits "I heard it Through The Grapevine" on 10". That's pretty cool. I wanted The Shaggs EP, but it looks like that's not on the Canadian list. Bummer.

The rest of this list doesn't do much for me. Even the stuff I like on here doesn't seem that rare, or doesn't excite me to get on vinyl.

I was ok until I got to the "Fs", I'm a real sucker for Flaming Lips records. I need those.

Plus it gets "Old Grandpa" out of the house, as my wife and kids say.

What, so I'm the only one of us who wants the Alanis Morissette demos album? Not much on the list for me either, maybe the Johnny Thunders LP.

That's true - Flaming Lips seem to do really cool releases ever year. I'm a fan, but not a big enough fan to spend money on the crazy box sets they keep coming out with.

The Shadowy Men box set is pretty incredible --- it collects their 3 LPs with original packaging plus bonus stuff - but I assume it won't be hard to find after RSD. Also, I just bought the re-release of their first album a year ago, so that makes it tougher for me to justify.

I want to hear the Johnny Thunders live album for sure - but I don't know if I need to own it on vinyl.

              ---

Of course if I was rich this would all be a different story. There's a pile of stuff I'd grab, so I guess the real problem is me.

I love it!!!!!!! Even though they're not supposed to hold things back for you I've been friends with a local record store owner since we were kids and he takes good care of me and I have about 6 set back for me so I don't have to fight the crowd. Still I'll browse around and see what other goodies I can find besides those.

Most of the list didn't do anything for me.

Yeah, you and me both sir! I'm guessing the Thunders live album probably sounds horrendous anyway.

Total bummer this morning, I kinda knew it was coming but it was bittersweet. I met the Ramones in that store and it used to be a regular Saturday haunt as a teen. We don't have many brick and mortar record shops here, living this close to a major city has it's drawbacks when it comes to pop culture.

The only other place that participated locally was the guitar store, they got one Skynyrd disk in, that's it. The owner shrugged and said to me that he thought it defeated the entire purpose that you had to chase around for stuff.

Anyway, i snagged one flaming lips ep (couldn't justify the 100 dollars for the other set) and the soundtrack to "Wild in the Streets" for six dollars. That was alright.

Wild in the Streets that's an obscure one. I was disappointed by the releases and some only having 5000 runs that would lead to a treasure hunt.

I'm a vinyl collector and listener...but I've basically tried to avoid this day for the last 2 years or so. Way too many hipsters that are not in it for the music but are in it to make money on flipping the records on Ebay. I did go this year but it was basically to help out a friend on a few records they were looking for. Only managed to get one out of the 4. I think the only good thing was that the shop I went to had Jim Breuer as there guest. That man is absolutely insane...but I have to give him all the props in the world because he is a DIE HARD Mets fan. Some great impersonations of the lead singer from AC/DC. So that made it bearable at the store. I did end up picking up some vintage vinyl very cheap though. Original 1st pressing of John Barleycorn Must Die for 99 cents and all it needed was a good cleaning. Also a few other like The Firm's 'Mean Business' which was a promo for 99 cents. And last but not least a couple of 80's bands that I'm not sure if anyone here may know : A group called The Truth and a band called The Call. Each had minor hit singles in "Weapons Of Love" and "Let The Day Begin"...but for 99 cents each it was worth it. Back in the day I think I paid $1.29 for the singles which I no longer have...so win win
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                          The beauty that surrounds them
                          Isn't it a pity".

I think I already have enough crappy sounding Johnny Thunders live bootlegs to last me a lifetime.

That Metallica RSD live performance was enough to make my day.

OK yeah, I did notice that while I waited to see the records (it's a very small space) that the couple in front of me seemed to be looking every title on their cell phones. They took forever and were kind of annoying. I got the vibe that they weren't music lovers.
