    Warts

I have a bothersome wart on a finger that I'm attempting to freeze off. As I was using the freezing agent I was wondering how warts form. Are they a virus or what. BTW, I know the jokes that are coming and no, it's not a genital wart.

I believe it is a Viral Infection. I have successfully frozen off a couple, but it takes persistence.

Warts are common, and are caused by a viral infection, specifically by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and are contagious when in contact with the skin of another. It is also possible to get warts from using towels or other objects. They typically disappear after a few months but can last for years and can recur.

Tim, toad licking stopped when I was 5. Hopefully freezing this annoyance works

Poison oak kills warts more effectively than freezing.

Had a huge one on my knee. after a few years I had to have it cut off. Took 4 stiches.
After having the stiches out I wan't thinking and jumped into the pickup truck I had and felt a pop, yup popped open the spot.
Good news it never came back - bad because I wasn't thinking I have a nice scar.

Is that true or are you trying to make him wary and itchie?

I've removed two with aspirin in the past. Just wet an aspirin and tape that sucker on overnight and repeat for a few days.

                        It's true.

I also developed a couple of warts on my fingers.

The dermatologist gave me that cold liquid nitrogen stuff (PAINFUL)...freezed them (and it hurt like hell)...and the warts came back. The doc did the exact same precedure again...and the warts came back yet again. So on the third try, she said the last resort was this poison oak solution...and was the recommended thing to do if freezing does not work. But she did warn me that it was going to be quite uncomfortable for the next 24 hours due to intense itching.

Well, the dermatologist was not lying, my fingers were itching like hell (they were bandaged up)...but it was terrible.

However, the warts had fallen off the very next day...and the warts were snuffed off for good...gone forever.

                        Yes, it works very well.

Native Americans used the stems to make baskets and the sap to cure ringworm . Chumash Indians used poison-oak sap to remove warts, corns, and calluses; to cauterize sores; and to stop bleeding. They drank a decoction made from poison-oak roots to treat dysentery.

Oils and saps from milkweed, dandelion, and poison ivy, tea tree, Thuja occidentalis, and fig trees have also been used. Accounts vary in regards to how long these remedies must be applied with each session and how long they take to work (my worked the very next day).

I got warts again myself just over the past few years. They are small but noticeable. I last had warts in 1984. I started High School in 1983 and was using Compound W to remove them. It burned and was only intensely painful because I over-used the stuff. It seemed to saturate the warts and turn them to dead skin. Instead of letting thekm fall off I peeled them like rubber off my skin and then promtly dripped more of the stuff in-which really burned. I hid them for the first 1/2 of freshman year of High School with bandages on my hands because I knew if the new kids saw them they would taunt me for all of high school. So I concocted a story where I said I had burned my hands with fireworks. I was thinking of using the freeze stuff to get them off this time.

I am actually dealing with a bothersome plantar wart on the heel of my foot.

My doctor confirmed it was a virus and that some people are more susceptible than others. She also said that they generally do not go away on their own in adults...with children it's a different story.

The main thing is to be patient. I have been using the wart remover pads to get rid of most of it but it requires a lot of patience and persistence. You have to soak the area with water and remove the dead skin with an ebony board and keep working it until it's almost gone then you bring in the freezing nitrogen to kill what's left of it. If you just keep freezing it, you will get rid of the top part but the bottom part will still be there and eventually grow back.
