    Geez... interesting day

I was out of town with my family today and I got a call no one wants to get. "Your house is on fire".

4 firetrucks responded.... We have a two story house and it seems an attic fan that runs when it's needed(has a thermostat) burnt up and tried taking my house with it. Fire was contained in the attic on the west side. A neighbor happened to notice the smoke and called 911. I shudder to think what might have happened if he hadn't noticed when he did.

All of this above happened and we weren't even home....

There's damage where the fireman went into the side of the house and on the ceiling of our smaller upstairs bathroom. We already had a company onsite to close up the hole on the side of the house and to do some initial cleaning work. So far no smoke smell or serious issues inside aside from the bathroom ceiling. The fireman came back again a few hours ago to look everything over and they are certain we're in good shape now. The power company had turned out power off, and we'll have an electrician come tomorrow to check out the electrical and then we'll have the power turned back on.

This could have been much worse and can't thank my neighbor enough and the fireman that showed up so quickly.

Absolutely! If this would have happened 12 hours before or 12 hours after, probably wouldn't have been noticed until too late....

Yikes, that is a terrible call to get. Good to hear that they caught it before extreme damage was done and that none of the family were harmed.

Oof, that's terrible, it's good to know it didn't spread further.

                      Thanks everyone!

Oddly, I was in a flea market shop at the time I got a call(saw a Ponch Mego and a Star Trek Bridge Playset there by the way), and my wife was not with me. So I had to call her to tell her, odd call to make as well..

I want to do something for my neighbor for sure. He lost his wife a few months ago, and again, without him noticing it, it would have have bad. Sadly Hallmark doesn't make an appropriate "Thank you for calling 911" card.... I'll continue to brainstorm...

Glad to hear you and your family are OK. Very scary situation. We came close ourselves one time within months of building our dream home. Returned from night out to find a knocked over lamp (cats & dogs!) smouldering on our hardwood floors inches from a rug. We make sure ALL lamps are off when we leave now.

You could always get him a gift card to a favorite restaurant or, if you know his likes/dislikes as far as food goes, you could always invite him over for a home-cooked mean; usually better than anything you can get at a restaurant. And, yeah, if he's the kind of man who appreciates an adult libation, a good bottle of bourbon or scotch is always a nice way to say "thank you."

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
