The sheer amount of pop culture stuff available anymore

Do you ever feel somewhat overwhelmed by how much stuff is now out there in stores? Used to be you went to a comic ship or iron on place to get a Batman tshirt, now they're all over.
Same with toys and figures, housewares, posters, art...you name it. Do you ever feel it's not special anymore, like the club is now open to the public? Maybe it's just me getting old.

Granted there is a lot of cool stuff. Funny how in all the New52 DC hype, the classic Garcia Lopez style guide stuff gets used most, along with Kirby Marvel & 77 Star Wars. Saw these designs today on ladies jammies.

Very true ... but it seems like only this generation is infatuated with pop nostalgia.

I can't picture anyone over 60 caring about what happened in pop nostalgia of their past (not including sports)

Do you ever feel it's not special anymore, like the club is now open to the public? Maybe it's just me getting old.

Kinda reminds me of what somebody said to me about tattoos ... He said having a tattoo "back in the day" was unusual, cool and rebellious ... Today 16 year old girls have them.... Was thinking NOT having a tattoo is unusual, cool and rebellious nowadays

Thanks to the Big Bang Theory, I refuse to wear comic book related shirts in public any more. It's all bands and trash cinema for me.

My in laws give me at least two every Christmas, I haven't bought a comic book in years.

The people at the gym must think i'm the world's biggest Batman fan.

It's overload. But that's how nostalgia works. They look at what was big thirty years ago and flood the zone.

I mean...we're almost at the 30th anniversary of Burton/Keaton Batman...

The more Silver Age, or even Bronze, I'm cool with. Certain things are sort of sad though, like this is the heyday of Batman '66.

I actually like it. I think its great that something from the 70's,80's and early 90's is still popular today or something that was laughed at back then is considered a classsic nowdays and has a cult following. Its like something that I liked and I was a made fun of mercilessly back in the day is popular and classic today tells me inside that I was right all along. Sometimes it takes another generation to discover something of the past and still keep it relevant despite it's age. Music as well. That's another subject for another time but when I see young kids into AC/DC, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST,BLACK SABBATH etc etc it puts a smile on my face.
The one thing that sucks is the price of some nostalgia nowdays.
Tattoo's are a touchy subject for me because I have some and can remember a time that it was NO WAY you could get hired even for a dishwasher at a resteraunt and if you you had a good paying job and had them covered you still wouldn't get hired. I saw and faced so much descrimination back then. But in a sense it good that it doesn't exist as much today (in some areas) and sucks cause the rebelious artistic individual aspect is gone...

It is all a bit too much. That's yet another reason I sold off the collection. I find I'm much, MUCH happier with less.

I'm currently having a blast collecting the vintage Star Wars model kits. I picked up a mint sealed 1977 Darth Vader kit for a mere $36...If that was a Kenner 12 back it would be thousands.

I will admit that I smile every time I see a Doctor Who item at the drugstore. Being a Who fan back in the 80s was like being a leper, so there is definitely an upside to all of this.

^ I do have to admit though, a lot of times i'm secretly embarrassed of myself for liking this kind of stuff because I know this stuff is mostly marketed to me and not kids.

When i'm looking at something nostalgic in the store whether it be a toy or whatever, I can almost hear other people thinking --- I used to have a rattle a bubble mower and a dirty diaper but I don't want one now

                      I think it's cool.

I'm super excited for the retro Strawberry Shortcake toys and I like seeing merchandise with classic designs and characters.

I think every generation has stuff they're nostalgic for. The 90s kids are now big into the 90s Nicktoons and shows right now. The $70 diecast Mighty Morphin' Megazords aren't selling to the kids watching Dinocharge on weekends.

You know, I've never really got the appeal of that show.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Like when you could only watch Who on PBS Saturday night at 11:00... And they'd have the clueless snobs from Masterpiece trying to solicit donations from "you Who-ers" and "we'll be right back to see how Doctor Who escapes from those monster people!" Still, it's all based on the current Doctors, or should I say mostly the 10th. If I was seeing 4 or 5 more?

I'm pretty put off by BBTHEORY myself. It's occasionally funny, but I find a lot of it demeaning to collectors. Plus all the so called geek losers have top jobs, plenty of disposable cash, keep dating out of their league, and really have nothing to complain about. My wife thinks it's great though and watches it all the time.

Tatoos are a good example. My older daughter has a bunch. Me, I have none. When I was a kid the only people I knew with tats had been in the Navy. At some point the trend will reverse I guess. Just like the comic popularity...I guess that's the thing to realize this saturation won't last too much longer?

For me, the characters remind me of the group of anti-social nerds with zero self awareness that have always given me a bad time.

I agree about it not being special. For me it is Doctor Who. I have been watching it all of my life and I love the classic episodes. When the new series came on I watched that too. Soon after merchandise started creeping out. I use to have fun going to a book store or FYE and trying to find one or two pieces like a magnet or nightlight. And I would have to go to online stores to find a lot of it.

Now there is everything Doctor Who everywhere. Last thing I bought in a brick and mortar store was the 12th Doctor's action figure (with purple shirt).
