    For old time's sake

Have you ever been out shopping and you see something that has either been re-released or you just haven't seen it since you were a kid and you just have to buy it?

Last week I was on my lunchbreak, and I went into this little store on Lakeshore Ave. here in Oakland called "Urban Indigo". They carry a variety of knick-knacks, jewelry, a few kids things, and some novelty items. I was just looking around when I was passing by the counter and saw Espeez Gold Mine gum in a little sack. This is just like that Gold Nugget gum or Love Its gum from the 70s that we used to get for a dime. Even though it now cost me over $3 I just had to get it. As I put it in my pocket, for a brief moment I was transported back to kindergarten when I used to bring Love Its gum to the playground to share w/ my friends.

Any of you ever do this?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

There is a little candy shop in Nashville, Indiana called "The Candy Emporium" that carries all sorts of throwback candies. Walking in there reminds me of going into the old Eight Mile Pharmacy, a great little drugstore that was about a mile from my house as a kid. I'd go in and buy my comics (they were fifteen cents!) and a stash of candy like the Gold Rush gum, Rock Candy, the wax bottle with "Coke" in them, and my all time fave, the Charms Sweet n' Sour pop. They've got all those, plus more, at the shop in Nashville except for the Charms Sweet n' Sour pop. It's a nice little time capsule...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I was like that when they started Wacky Packages up again. I was buying boxes and then sticking them in random placed throughout New York City. Vandalism, I realize, but it was too much fun not to.

        Big League Chew

My local mom and pop store used to carry it in the 80's

Never seen it again since then

Recently seen it at a local dollar store and was very surprised it's still around.

Yep, glow in the dark Silly Putty at Michaels.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

As a kid did you ever have one of those novelty cans that when you turned it upside down it would make a cow's moo, sheep's baaa or another animal noise? A few months ago we were having lunch at the Cracker Barrel and in their gift shop I saw one of these. Haven't seen one since I was probably around 8-9 years old. I had to have it so now it sits in my office so I can bother all of my office mates with it many times a day

I just picked up Play Doh classic colors 4 pack at Walmart. I haven't had Play Doh since I was little. Haven't opened it yet. I wonder if it still smells the same.

Mikey - Big League Chew has never left. Every convenience store has carried it since I was a kid. Grocery stores too.

Yeah I still buy the Marvel universe x-men related figures because it brings me back to the comics I loved as a kid.

I opened them up and as far as I can remember, Play Doh still smells the same. I'm going to try to make a Grumpy Bear.

                      Just thought of another one...

When Praying Mantis rereleased Evel Knievel's stunt cycle.

Just seen it sitting on the store shelf and I had to get it

Yeah I got that one too, Mikey. It didn't work as well. But the Poof-Slinky version did. Too bad it was made of all plastic parts. The gears got stripped w/ extended play.
