Does Your Firestation Blow Their Sirens Twice a Day ?

When I lived in Jersey, my local Firestation would blow their sirens twice a day.
    Once at 12:00 PM (lunch-time)
Twice at 6:00 PM (around supper-time)

Most towns around me did the same.....

Ever since I moved to PA, I noticed it's the same here.

It it somekind of American law to break ones eardrums twice a day ?
Or is it just a local East Coast thing ?

When I lived in Texas, I was startled by Tornado sirens every month when they'd test them, or do drills or whatever.

That sounds very annoying Mike. I live across the road from a hospital, and am very grateful that the ambulances thoughtfully don't turn on their sirens until they turn out of my street.

Not only a East Coast thing, but a North East thing I think. Didn't hear anything like that in Georgia or now in Arizona.

When I lived on Long Island (1972-1992) the local fire station blew the siren at noon and around 6 pm every weekday. I don't recall it blowing on the weekends. When I was stationed in Georgia (1992-1995) the base fire department didn't set off the siren. The local departments where I live now in PA only sound their siren when there is an actual call and they need the volunteers to report to the station. And that can be a half dozen times a day, depending on the department.

Every Wednesday unless there is bad weather they sound off the tornado sirens, as a weekly test.
