I recall seeing the original pilot they shot for Pawn Stars prior to it being picked up by the History channel, and did focus a bit on the Broken People/Broken Dreams aspect of a Pawn Shop. I think it worked out for them better this way to focus on the historical artefact/antique/collectible schtick rather than the more depressing aspects of reality television that a true look into a Pawn Shop would reveal.

My step daughter just got out of jail after a year for having meth,devastating. Chumlee is a totally fabricated character,in my opinion outside the show he seems like a scumbag.

Real sad to see someone with so much going for them to throw it all away on drugs. Where i live has a serious meth problem. I live next to the Cherokee Indian reservation. Enrolled members get checks 2 times a year from the casino. Usually around $4000. So for a month the cops try and control it. Then you get the kids who turn 18 and have a bank account with over $200,000. Good god would I have been in trouble if i had that kind of money at that age. Meth has got to be one of the worst drugs ever.

They do some serious low ball. I'd offer it to the appraisers myself. At least pickers have the integrity to give decent offers most of the time now. But when you make three times on an object it's a bit excessive.. The more the value the less the flip will still put some profit in pocket without needing to double up.

I never cared much for chumley. I realize it's scripted but comes off as a side kick idiot. But he knows his tennis shoes.

I can forgive him for the drugs and guns, but if he's guilty of sexual assult he needs to be put away for a long time.

From how their store/company/'characters'/and personalities are presented, I don't know why any 'customer' would go there. The staff low-balls and mis-represents; it all seems a big joke to them; I've been in meetings and presentations with some of their 'experts' who less expert and more like big fishes in small ponds; and the entire situation just doesn't seem honest.

The whole pawn game seems kinda dirty --- for one thing most of your business is desperate people in need of cash and will mostly likely settle for whatever you offer them.

This Pawn Stars stuff isn't the norm --- You don't see George Washington autographs and Rolex watches walking into most pawn shops daily.

The pawn shop by me looks like a Salvation Army mission inside

Well he had a good run. From a minimum wage clerk to pulling in $25k an episode and a 5 mil net worth 7 years later. I guess money won't make you any smarter.

Austin Russell is just a guy playing a character on a totally fake/scripted TV show.

If you're going to seriously pass judgement on the guy, do so because of how Austin behaves in real life, not because of what his character "Chumlee" does on a silly TV show.

Nailed it. Rick gets on my nerves more than any of them. he comes across as a know-it-all and constantly is the only one laughing at his own jokes. Again, maybe it's the character he's supposed to play. They all low ball the people coming into their shop. One is as bad as the other. Seeing someone destroy their life due to drugs doesn't make me happy at all. I don't feel much sorrow for them but still I see no joy in it.

I'm suprised the show has lasted this long? I guess people were lined up in front of the place all day, and they only would let in so many people at a time, and a lot were
hand picked by the show makers and security since they wanted hot looking girls hanging around as camera eye candy, also at times the cast was not even there,
folks just wanted to see them more then anything else.

also I've watched shows were some customers tried to screw Rick and the others, so that does work both ways, the old man was useless, just sat around and
did nothing but tell off the others.

But have to agree, never liked the son Corey (Big Hoss), just seemed like an arrogant jerk, actually I know someone who went to vegas and stopped in at the shop
and they told me that Corey wasn't very friendly at all, as far as Chumlee, isn't this his second offense? he played dumb but the show was definitly scripted,
looks like the early success went to their heads, and that stupid game show they were on that was short lived, forgot the name.

I haven't been able to stand watching the show for a couple of years. I knew the 'Chumlee' persona was a gag, but Big Hoss just bugs me too much. I hope that's not really his personality; he comes across to me like a miserable prick.

Meth is nasty stuff.
