    R.I.P. Vanity

I can say with no shame I had a poster of her on my wall when I was a kid (for the obvious reasons). 2016 has not been kind.

Denise Katrina Matthews, the singer formerly known as Vanity, has reportedly died. She was 57.

Oh wow! She was only 57! That's just too young. I remember in Hi school, we used to laugh to "If A Girl Answers, Don't Hang Up". RIP Vanity.

Such sad news. I still have her Vanity 6 lp. At least in her final years she was sober and clean although the damage was done. Better to pass away clean with a clear mind and heart. RIP.

              Very saddened by this.

Her ministry was next to Fremont's Kaiser, close to my home.

Years of drug abuse destroyed her kidneys. I can relate, not the drug part, but I have chronic kidney disease. Luckily, while not 100% healthy, I have functioning kidneys (my creatinine levels are almost normal). She had a transplant and was still on dialysis.

I agree with Mike, she was drop dead gorgeous. I was a big fan of hers.

She was not a great actress nor singer, but she was a good entertainer nevertheless.

              RIP...

Matthews suffered from sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis, a rare complication of a peritoneal dialysis, and died in a Fremont, California hospital on February 15, 2016, at the age of 57.

She needed $43,000.00 for her health and Prince didn't step in to help? That azz-wipe. He has millions. He could'a offered her assistance.

Well, to be fair to Prince, perhaps he did not know that she needed help to pay for her medical bills. After all, they broke up 30 years ago (prior to "Purple Rain") and most people don't keep tabs on their ex-girlfriends/ex-boyfriends after 30 years. Prince said some kind words about her at a recent concert.

I'm not defending Prince for everything that he tried to do (his original suggestion for Vanity's stage name also began with a "V-") but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt now, and I'm willing to believe that he's not the same person that he was in his early 20's.

About Vanity, it really is a tragedy. She died way too young. Paid the price for her hard-partying and hard-living years, but I'm glad for her that she straightened herself out after near-kidney-failure in '94 and had 20 more years of life.

Didn't Prince turn jehovah witness ?

Them people mostly stay to themselves and break all ties with former family and friends
