Both extremes, too skinny or too fat, are not good role models. Fashion has glorified anorexic models so many decades now, it's worrying. How are kids supposed to grow up, seeing "role models" that are skin over bone? That look really unhealthy, with abnormally long and skinny limbs, ribcage showing?
The photo that we're discussing now is what I would say within the range of "normal". It would be ok if she lost some weight, but she doesn't need to go see a doctor, which is what most "accepted" fashion models should do. Because those girls need help. And food. And psychological counseling.

Well, that was a sign of affluence (because the wealthy ate well) and was not only accepted, it was considered beautiful and encouraged.

Here are two different depictions of Venus...the Goddess of love, sex, fertility and desire...and she's pretty darn plump.

They also died a lot younger back then too. Really, I could care less what others like I just know what I prefer and am attracted to. To each their own I say and while you hear it all the time and some don't believe it, personality makes up most of what I'm attracted to anyway

Yes they did, but their weight had very little to do with it I think. You were much more likely to die from a poor diet, or from diseases which are now prevented through vaccination, better nutrition, better living conditions or hygiene.
The invention of refrigeration alone saved millions of lives.

She is heavy for a model, not everyday people fat. I read she's 5'9 185. Which is very close to what I weigh, being a man it's different I know. Hopefully we start seeing some middle ground for models and actresses after this. Some guys like ladies with curves. I don't think 5'6 135 high school girls should feel like they are fat because of what the Pretty Little Liars or Gossip girls look like.

Meat is for the Man...bone is for the dog. Nice to see a healthy full figured model on the cover......even if I no longer buy SI

Not to repeat a lot of other sentiments already posted here, but you really do need to open your eyes and get an attitude adjustment towards the real world. There are likely just as many voluptuous women in the world as there are average body shape and bonebags. As far as fat being covered, I agree---but only when it's the fat on a piece of bacon frying so you don't get a nasty burn...!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Actually there are most likely many many more voluptuous (fat, big boned or whatever term you choose to use) people in this world than what you say is average. Fat has become average and a big reason why type 2 diabetes has become an epidemic. The main problem is that most larger people don't move, I mean really get up or out and move their bodies. As Hec mentioned, he's a larger guy but he's exercising, moving his body, pumping that blood. Most don't and their diet largely consists of sugar and carbs. Nothing wrong with being big but at least try to be the healthiest big as you can. No one here needs an attitude adjustment as they are free to think as they wish just as you are. We all have opinions and you know what they say about those Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all don't have the same view.

I really don't know the criteria for choosing the cover model but if she got there just like the others, cool enough. But if she got there because there was some SI meetings that they had to cater to certain "groups" then I don't like it as much. She's cute, in any case.

To me it looks like her head is too small for her body.

                            I'm sure SI did something.

Perhaps airbrush out a double chin or something.

Love big women but there's something not right about this picture.

I had life threatening medical condition that kept me housebound and stationary for the better part of five years. I gained more than 70 pounds, which had me on the verge on suicide. Trust me, my eyes were opened. With the help of my doc, I found about the only kind of exercise I could safely do and and did the hell out of it. I weighed and measured every last thing I ate and lost more than 50 pounds in the last calendar year. I didn't deprive myself of food, but if I ate too much, I made damn sure there was enough exercise to off set it. I didn't like fat when I was thin, I didn't like fat when I was fat, and I don't like it when it's on anyone else. With very few medical exceptions, there is not reason a person cannot be at a decent weight.
