Very cool Pics.
I couldn't find any cool pics of downtown Philly in the 70's, but I think this billboard from the 70's might help explain why-

I love my hometown but Philly really did have serious issues back in the 70's and 80's. Most of my memories are from good, working-class neighborhoods, but there were definitely "issues."

I do remember making are way over to the Ben Franklin Parkway to swim in the fountains at Logan Circle or the Art Museum.

By the 80's, we used to head to South St, Philly's much smaller version of Greenwich Village, for cool punk stores.

I couldn't help also throwing in the Sam Eric Theater on Chestnut St. We used to go "downtown" to see movies there. It was recently torn down. The last movie I saw there was Evil Dead 2
