Ultraman was a better looking character but if I'm not mistaken, wasn't he a Japanese pilot that was hit with radiation or something and transformed into Ultraman?
CLose enough for a childhood memory. I only saw the american dubbed version haven't got it on DVD yet. Hyata's ship was hit by the ship of ultraman killing him but he was revived when the alien bonded with him. The beta capsule allowed him to transform into ultraman for 2 minutes (it always felt much longer) time was limited by pollution in the air

Johnny Sokko! Always playing 2nd to Ultraman, yet while I never wanted to be Ultraman, I always wanted a Giant Flying Robot.

Ultraman... all the way. Giant Robo is weak and Voltron is a vehicle, not a sentient being. Plus ultraman has the legacy that when he DOES lose, one of the other Ultra-brothers (ultra7, ultra ace, ultra Taro etc.) comes and saves him. There are a LOT of Ultra-brothers and no one has voltron or Giant Robo's backs. No one at all.

Ultraman was a sort of giant space cop from the M79 nebula who accidentally crashed into a Science Patrol spaceship; killing Hayata, the pilot. To make up for it, Ultraman gives part of his life to Hayata. Only one can exist at a time though, which is the reason for the transformations.

Of the three mentioned, I definitely think Ultraman would win. Voltron (either one) was a robot, and moved pretty slow. Giant Robot was even SLOWER! But Ultraman is fast, has an endless numbner of weapons, force fields, AND the Ultra-beings are supposed to be like space gods.

    Ultraman is Japan's Superman.

I had always preferred Ultraman, but I had a friend in school that had to rush home to watch Johnny Socko. So in my mind they are both a tie. I actually added Voltron so the 80's kids wouldn't feel left out

Ultraman!! I collect kaiju figures as well as many other toys, but the vintage Bullmark/Popy stuff can get kind of pricey, so I collect mostly modern remake stuff. I've never seen Johnny Socko, looks cool though! I have the complete 80's Voltron lion and plan on completing the rest of the action figures soon. As for other peoples picks, I never dug either Astroman or Speedracer as akid, don't know why,I just didn't. Space Giants looks great, but I haven't seen it, I know there is a very expensive goldor(?) figure made by Marmit(?) that looks super cool.

Interesting choices but I am surpised you have a Live action selection in Ultraman and Johnny Socko (60's & 70's shoes) with an animated one for the 80's

In my memory I loved space giants until I saw it again in the late 80's Goldar's face looked like green mold to me.

of the 2 voltron's The cars were better

but give me the Beta capsule Ultraman ...KASHOCK
