Ron Howard's In The Heart of the Sea...Box Office Bomb...

What a shame...just saw it yesterday, the theater was just one fourth full. I say what a shame...because the movie was wonderful...at the end of the movie, the small crowd applauded.

The movie is NOT Moby Dick, it's about a true event that inspired Herman Velville's Moby Dick.

On a comic book note...Thor and Spider-Man team up here...as Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland stars. Oh, the Scarcrow too, Cillian Murphy, lol. The teen from Fear the Walking Dead is in it as well, yup, he does look like a young Johnny Depp.

Again, what a crying shame...I loved every second of In The Heart of the Sea.

But just think about all those movies that are opening on the 16th, Hector. My God have mercy on their souls (although I would likely see SISTERS before STAR WARS; I love the team of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I'm sorry, but my Christmas wish is that both Amy Poehler and Tina Fey get hit by an asteroid...

I think movies have been hit pretty hard by the times. Pretty golden time for tv with the advancement in special effects, and the talent appearing on the small screen these days. Along with the talent and money behind the scenes.

Glad to hear it's a good film, but I've got to tell you, the trailers sold it as a kind of special effects Moby Dick meets Jaws meets Godzilla. It felt like an effects only film in those trailers. But I think more importantly it just pales in the huge shadow of Star Wars opening this week. I think people are pretty ramped up and I just finished watching 60 Minutes that had a cover story on The Force Awakens. Quite good actually. It was Spielberg that got Abrams the job for this first installment. But I digress. Anyway, I think any big budget film opening needs allot more time to make it's budget back then parking one week outside of Star Wars. Even if it had found it's audience this weekend, it was going to drop off the cliff next weekend. They should have held it until the first part of 2016.

If you're going to see just one movie this holiday season, then go see....

              .

              KRAMPUS!

Seriously, go have fun with Krampus before it leaves the theater. Then go see Star Wars.

It was originally scheduled to open in March of this year. Maybe it would have done better then. The preview I saw back in January really turned me off from seeing it.

Being sandwiched BETWEEN The Hunger Games and Star Wars would likely put the squeeze on any film...
