Tell me about your High School bus ride

Living in the sticks on NW New Jersey earned me a 55 minute bus ride to school ... on top of that I had to walk exactly 1 mile just to get to the bus stop.

By the time I got to homeroom I was ready to just passout and say f_ckit.

Tell me about you high school bus horror stories ............

In a word...crowded! There were a lot of kids on that route, so a lot of us had to sit 3 to a seat. Our bus driver Karen was pretty cool, and always had "The Mighty 690" tuned in on the bus radio. One memorable event however, is when a bee flew in the bus window and stung Karen, and she had an anaphylactic reaction, and almost ran our bus off the road. One of the older boys "John-John", jumped in the driver's seat, pulled the bus over to a stop and radioed for help. Another bus came and took us all to our stops.

I lived out in the country. It was about an hour trip going down the country roads to pick up kids and back on the highway, again. However, I only rode it for two years in high school. By the time I was a junior, I had a drivers license and drove to and from school.

I road the same bus (same route) from late in elementary school on.

When Lil D is old enough for school, I've already told my daughter, I'm driving him to and from school every day. I don't trust the school system or the drivers they hire around here to care for my priceless grand son. They have accidents all the time in Louisville.

I've told my therapist enough about this topic, no need to discuss here.

I also had hour long bus rides out in the sticks. We once had a bus window shot out by an over-zealous hunter. Once on second semester picture day, our bus got stuck in a huge drift on the unplowed road. We had to walk two miles out to the main road for another bus. I, like many other girls, was wearing a skirt and heels. We were half frozen and soaking wet, so we spent half of the day wrapped in blankets. Once I hit 16, I got an after school job just so I could drive to school and sleep in an hour later.
