Nothing to do with Mego, but GI Joe + MASK?

Sorry for posting non-Mego toy rumors, but I figured we all like toys here, and I thought this could be kind of cool.

Some people may know that I run one of the few M.A.S.K. websites around. After MEGO went away, I transitioned to Star Wars and Transformers like everyone else - but one line that always captured my imagination was MASK, and is still one of my favorite toys to this day (hence the website)

Anyway - a little "mystery" has appeared over the last few days in the GI Joe world. Hasbro has been releasing the 25th Anniversary line of GI Joe figures which are really cool. A few weeks ago listings for a new wave showed up in Wal Mart computers and one of the figures was just listed "MASK". No biggie.

Yesterday Hasbro officially announced a new wave of figures, one being called "Specialist Trakker". Now, the leader of MASK was "Matt Trakker".

So you have a WalMart listing for a figure called "MASK" and that figure being called by Hasbro "Specialist Trakker" is leading folks to think they could be doing something sort of cool, which is integrating a character from another property into the GI Joe line. For a MASK fan like me, who basically gets NO love in the toy world, this is HUGE NEWS.

Apparently there are a couple of characters in GI Joe history that could qualify as a “Specialist Tracker” (note spelling) but I guess those characters came much later in the GI Joe line and are sort of obscure.

I sure hope this is true, so cross your fingers for me! I'm like INSANELY excited about this, not only because I would love to have ANY new MASK toy, but also because it's kind of neat to think a big corporation like Hasbro, in a market mostly driven by 'research' and the 'bottom line' could pull off something this cool.

    Anyway just wanted to share...

WOW!!! Great website you have there. I didn't notice the link before, which is weird.

I was quite the M.A.S.K. fan as a kid. It just seemed aimed at slightly older kids than say MOTU. The vehicles in normal mode were pretty realistic, and the small figures were fun to amass a large qty of. I didn't like the shift to the racing theme, but by that time I was about to give up "playing" with toys. I still have most of my MASK stuff, but its pretty beat-up. My kid digs it.

That being said, GI Joe intergrating MASK into it's world is a lot like Transformers calling a line Go-Bots. Smart marketing on Hasbro's part, and nice use of properties they now own due to all the various mergers they've done.

I hope "Trakker" comes with Spectrum, cuz it's got such super-vision!
