    Elvis Presley / Oldies Fans

So it seems that every year I post a plug for the Elvis Festival that I attend. It was in Poconos, PA for a number of years. Last year it had moved to Ocean City, MD. If you are an Elvis fan, you really need to attend one of these if there are any close to you. The festivals run by Jason Sherry http://elvisfestival.com/ are the best. You can click the link to see where they are. Basically it is a competition where 20 Elvis Tribute Artists compete with the winner getting an entry in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition in Memphis. There is always a good mix of talent. Usually you get 10-15 that are pretty good, a few that are really bad and a few that are really good. The highlight of the festivals are the Friday and Saturday night headliner concerts. This is some of the best entertainment you will find in the ETA world. The entire weekend is entertaining and Jason puts together a better show every year. My brother and I decided to take in another show this year as the Indiana festival included a Jukebox Live concert on Friday night. So we flew out there this past weekend and had a blast. The show included tributes to Ricky Nelson, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, and my favorite, Buddy Holly. What's really cool is that all of the tribute artists except Rod Stewart are also Elvis tribute artists and they are great at both. One of the artists, Dean Z, is IMO one of the top 5 Elvis tribute artists in the world, probably the #1 early years Elvis tribute artist and he also does one of the Everly Brothers AND an absolutely incredible Buddy Holly tribute. I can honestly say that the 2 hour concert was the best two hours of entertainment I have ever witnessed. The Buddy Holly tribute was just stunning. Dean really has Buddy down not only with vocals but stage mannerisms too. Below are some links too a few of the videos I took. Sorry for the bad videography. I was more into enjoying the show that keeping my hands steady. Anyway, if you are an Elvis fan, you need to get to one of these. You won't be disappointed.

I am a huge Buddy Holly fan. Very few people know how much influence Buddy had on rock and roll. From a technical point of view he had WAY more influence than Elvis. Fender owes the popularity of the Stratocaster to him. He was a HUGE influence on the Beatles. I would have flown out to Indiana just to see Dean Z do Buddy Holly and I wasn't disappointed, the other performances were a bonus.

I really believe if Buddy lived he would have been at least as popular as Elvis but for different reasons.

For one thing, unlike snooty Elvis I think Buddy and the Beatles would have been friends.

Hell, Buddy might have eventually become a Traveling Wilbury
