Yeah - that's weird. Maybe he said "5" to be vague on purpose. My thing is, for all we know there's an hour of arguing after he lost the question sorting this out that was cut from the show.Comment

These game show host have to ask the contestants to specify/clearify any amounts in question, so the other contestants
know what's going on especially on Jeapordy, or Price is Right opening bids, Alex seems to come out as a mr specific all
correct perfection guy, but when something like this issue comes up, the host needs to explain the rules more clearly
or double check a contestants wording and or bid amounts, like "5" five what? the contestant has to clearly say the whole complete amount, very surprised Alex didn't ask him to specify, "5" or the judges, maybe the Merv Griffin folks gave him a private tounge lashing.Last edited by TrekStar; Oct 9, '15, 1:15 PM.Comment

The official game rules are that the contestant may shorten topic categories and category dollar amounts when calling them out e.g., "I'll take Potent for 6." instead of Potent Potables for $600. However the amount stated in Daily Double wagers must be precise.
This guy's M.O. is to hunt around and eliminate the Daily Double (using it to his advantage when he can) and then go from the bottom up in each category to maximize his lead/winnings. Notice, at the end of each round that the smaller dollar amounts remain.
He's a very smart player. If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.Comment

Whether he said five and meant 5000, said 5000, or said 5 and meant 5, the 2nd place contestant does not have a a case because these game shows have contracts for entrants that has wording about not holding the the shows responsible for this type of thing.Comment
