Anybody watch SNL last night ?

Have to admit, was kind of let down by the mosty lame political sketches.

Was looking up to some more sharp ribbing.

I do like Leslie Jones a lot.

I think she has big potential to be the next mega-star of SNL.

I've pretty much stopped finding SNL funny. The current cast I personally dislike, in particular the young kid and the two news guys.
I think they are trying to hard to be hip. Or maybe(likely) I'm just getting too old for the humor.
I do watch most episodes , out of habit, but on dvr so I can fast forward through anything. I find unfunny. Or the musical guests I never heard of.

Am I the only one who gets a bit angry when all these politicians show up on tv shows? I mean, arent the taxpayers paying for a day' expense of Michelle Obama on Colbert? All the issues that never get addressed in Washington and yet there is time for Kimmel or Fallon? Sorry, not trying to start anything political. Hillary Clinton was on snl this week. You can expect Trump soon. And others. Its a new form of campaigning I guess.

I've always thought it was one of the First Lady's unspoken about duties being a good will ambassador.

I have no prob with her being in the public eye... whether it's because of an issue or just being seen

I watched it. If Lorne wasn't such a TV demigod, they would be canceled.

Has to be the worst group of writers they've ever assembled, and that includes the last years of Farley/Sandler when everyone was so drugged out, they could barely finish a show.

I record it every year and watch it the next day, so I can skip through the commercial and [usually] the musical guests. I generally give the season premiere a free pass. Part of the SNL gig is to do "timely" humor, and with an extended time off it can be hard to separate what's timely from what's humorous. Things happen during that time off that beg to be skewered, and it's difficult not to try sketches that poke fun at those things.

With all that being said, I felt it was a really poor opening show. For whatever reason, Lorne loves Miley (I'm still baffled as to why he let her sing a Paul Simon song on the big anniversary show, when Paul Simon himself was there at the time), and she's just not a strong enough actor or singer to anchor a season premiere, let alone perform double-duty. I'm curious to see how the Amy Schumer show goes next week as I feel like she's a pretty sharp comedy writer in general and hopefully she can bring the same sort of humorous POV that people like Louis C.K. bring.

For me personally I usually never watch the musical guest.

            I don't get the funny/music connection

            It's very distracting.

Also, seems like SNL has the most commercials of any show on TV ... I bet if you sit and timed it there's probably like 25 minutes of actual show.

I'm not a fan of Miley, but I actually liked her on this SNL. Her comedy was passable, and her music was downright tolerable. Also, agree on Leslie Jones being good. I wonder what she'd say if there were no network censors. Didn't care for Hillary; don't think the news guys are nearly as funny as they think they are.

Well, it ain't the 90's, so I don't think the SNL entity has to settle for all-night Infomercials ---they'd be better off making use of the fact that they're still a pretty viable name franchise and finding alternate outlets for their material before they lose the connection to their "hot spot for comedy up & comers" label entirely.

                    That was nuts!

Was it just me, or was the audience asleep? I was so happy to see Tracy Morgan on SNL again. Who ever thought we'd see a new Brian Fellows or Astronaut Jones sketch? I was so excited, but it didn't seem to get much reaction. Also, "Yo! Where Jackie Chan at Right Now?" was really funny. The audience didn't seem into any of it.

                      Ha ha

When Tracy first came out to do his monologue and for a split second acted like he was sick and then said just kidding it reminded me of Gene Wilder as Willie Wonka's first appearance

The audience did seem kinda dead ... perhaps most were too young to know Tracy's characters ?

During the monologue, I turned to my wife and expressed hope that we would see either of those characters... And we saw both. Awesome show.

It was great seeing Tracy back, and doing his old characters, and yeah, the audience did seem kind of blah for some reason. And seeing that mini 30 Rock reunion at the beginning made me realize how much I miss that show.

                            From Tracy's opening monologue:

"People are wondering, 'Can he speak? Does he have 100 per cent mental capacity? The truth is, I never did. I might even be a few points higher."
