I have been doing genealogy since my great grandma got me into it back in the 1980s. All that letter writing, and paper back then was a pain in the butt. All the online archives and records nowadays are awesome! So far, all we have ever found though is Dutch, Dutch, Dutch, and more Dutch people. A family member plunked down her money to do one of these DNA tests and it came back that one side of our family was of 35% Chinese ancestry. Now, I could understand a little bit of something other than northern European being in there, but 35% Chinese? My trust of those tests went right out the window.
The other way happens too...Bruce Lee was part German...but I don't see any German in him.
I do believe those DNA tests are indeed accurate.
Dutch/Chinese trading has been going on for a while...
I'd say embrace your Asian side...nothing wrong with that, I think it's pretty cool if you ask me.Last edited by Hector; Oct 25, '15, 3:50 PM.sigpicComment

My cousin and I have documented that side of the family back to 1498 and found nothing but Netherlands-born Dutch. I understand and expect a little of this and a little of that, but for it to say we are of more than 1/3 Chinese heritage is complete and utter crap.
I add spouses' parents to our genealogy; even if by some amazing coincidence, twelve generations Dutchmans' spouses all had Chinese grandparents, it still wouldn't add up to 35%. 35% would require direct Chinese relatives in the last couple of generations. So unless someone recent was switched at birth, or the milkman came into the picture, it is nonsense. I know DNA tests are accurate. However, I think many of these genealogy DNA companies prey on eager armchair genealogists, just taking their money and giving back completely fictional results.
Asian blood can easily be diluted if a lot of other mixing happens. Look at Keanu Reeves, Tom Hanks, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Phoebe Cates, Dean Cain, Meg and Jennifer Tilly...etc...you wouldn't think they had Asian blood, but they do...and theirs is recent...now imagine if some of your Chinese ancestors was like 200 years ago...the Asian appereance would be practically untraceable.
