Johnny Depp in Black Mass

Just saw it yesterday...and IMO...his best performance since Donnie Brasco.

Depp plays notorious Irish mobster James "Whitey" Bulger...and hits it outta the park.

No flamboyant pirate Jack Sparrow...no Tim Burtonesque shtick...we get a raw and nasty Depp here.

If you like Donnie Brasco or Goodfellas type flicks...this is the one you might wanna check out.

The scene where Bulger (Depp) "checks" on Connelly's wife is sooooooo disturbing.

Depp was really good but I was really blown away by Joel edgerton as John Connelly. A great portrayal of guy who thinks he's guided by a strong moral compass but it reallly just a narcissistic mental case.

This was a good move by Depp. I think he was bordering on becoming a joke, especially since Dark Shadows and Lone Ranger flopped, hitching their entire premise on his quirky performances.

Over the years, I've developed a Depp allergy. My doctor has forbidden me to see his movies for at least ten years.
His OTT performances in Pirates and Shadows were too much. Used to be a big fan.

Same here. I thought he had become a caricature of himself. But this role has me digging him once again.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. Depp is an amazing talent that sometimes is a victim of his own success. That's a good problem to have.
