Jack Larson, tvs first jimmy olsen passes away

Jack Larson It is with great sadness that I report that Jack Larson, best known for playing Jimmy Olsen in the 1950s "Adventures of Superman" TV series, has passed away, aged 87.
Jack Larson, who was also a playwright and librettist, died Sunday at his home in Brentwood, California. The New York Times reports that the death was confirmed by Alan Howard, a longtime friend.

I was lucky enough to have met Jack ten years ago when he came to Sydney to film his role in "Superman Returns". We chatted for hours about his career, George Reeves, Superman and many other things, over a nice Chinese meal at a Restaurant on Sydney Harbour. He was very funny and entertaining. A true gentleman.

    He will be sadly missed.

I'm truly sad to hear this, Jack was a cultural touchstone for comics fans and a man who made his place in Hollywood on his own terms. Every interview I saw of him showed what a kind, accommodating person he was.

Wasn't the popularity of his Jimmy Olsen on TV the impetus for the comic's reintroduction and expansion of the character?

Jimmy was a solid supporting character in the comics, but Larson's version is why he became more prominent, and got his own title, when super hero comics were in decline.

Still my favorite Jimmy Olsen. He had such great chemistry with George Reeves, Noel Neil, and John Hamilton.

      RIP.

Agreed, very saddening news. Mr. Larson set the bar for portrayals of Jimmy Olsen, I make sure to catch the reruns on MeTV every Saturday evening.

        Rest in peace Jack.

Very sad news to hear, he was and still is the true Jimmy Olsen IMO, and he did have great chemistry with Reeves,
Neil and Hamilton. The Superman series DVD set has commentary from both Larson and Neil in some episodes
it's interesting listening to him talk about the show. RIP Mr. Larson.
