Anyone here collecting the state quarters?

I was just curios to know who if anyone here may be collecting. I have been dabbling with them although not real serious though. I have been collecting some loose state quarters whenever I get pocket change from buying something. I am just seeing if I can actually complete a loose non mint set just for something to do. Anyone else here collecting or trying to build a set just for fun? Perhaps if there is any interest at all we can get some trades going through this thread. Kind of like the Mego Museum trading cards want and haves list.

I started collecting them with my son when he was younger but haven't done it the past few years. Lately, if I have a loose state quarter or find one of those Jefferson nickels that were printed a few years ago, I throw them in an empty 5 gallon container.

They really have no collectible value and never will because they are in circulated condition.

When a new quarter is released, you can usually drop by your bank and pick up a roll that is uncirculated....but that's not technically true either. The loose quarters are shipped to a place that rolls them and ships them to various banks so techinically they're circulated but I'm not paying a premium to order uncirculated rolls directly from the mint.

The Presidential dollars are fun to collect too and I usually purchase a roll of these when they first come out.

Then there are the First Spouse Coins....1/2 oz. 24 kt. gold. I purchased 2 Jefferson coins (he was a bachelor while he was in office so they placed a Liberty head that was in circulation at the time). The first 3 spouse coins sold out within an hour of their release but gold prices rose above $1000 an ounce and the Dolley Madison coin was a bust because the mint always charges a premium over the spot rate. My wife thought I was crazy to spend $835 I think for the two coins but she's eating humble pie now that the just the spot rate is above what I paid plus the collectibility premium.

We started out strong on the quarters, but have slacked off this last year

I bought the New Jersey --- Denver & Philadelphia 2-pack back in the day (i'm from Jersey) but that's about it.

I think they're stretching the release times too long.

People don't want just 5-ish states a year.

Interest is waning big-time lately because they're dragging their asses.

          5 coins x 50 states

          That's 10 years...

          Too long, imo

Yeah really, (10 years can be a long time) Some of us may not actually have that long to wait. hehe I wish they would release more soon. Kind of like EMCE which of whom is doing a great job don't get me wrong. The goods just cannot come fast enough for someone eager such as myself. I am really wanting to get Arizona since I live there part time. AND naturally it would have to be one of the last friggin coins on the list. The agony of it all I tell ya!

I collect them with my nephew. Just the circulated ones and we don't care about the P or D mints. But it is fun looking through my loose change to see if I got any new ones for him.

I've collected them from the start. I'm only missing one or two (Wyoming and Oklahoma). But this is the last year for them and assuming that Oklahoma is the most recent one, then there's only 4 left: New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska & Hawaii.

Not to put any States down (which I won't mention specifically)

But some of the States' artwork is pretty horrendous-- mostly for subject matter.

I tend to agree with that statement as well. Again, Not to slap anyone in the face or diss anyone's state or anything. I look at some of the art work and cannot help but wonder what in the heck were they thinking when they minted those?

They are also doing a set of U.S. territories and Washington D.C.

Washington D.C.'s artwork has already been rejected a few times because they wanted the phrase "Taxation without Representation" on their quarter and the mint refuses to place it on the coin. I think Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, etc. will all have quarters.

                          That would be neat

Sounds like a good idea, but ten years...wow
